CWFC World Title at stake at QFC3

The CWFC Bantamweight World Title will be on the line at the Quannum Fighting Challenge 3 event on June 8 as reigning Champion Paul "Metabolic" McVeigh (12-5-0) returns to the UK to defend his coveted CWFC Title against Steve McCombe (7-3-0) of the EFR Fight Team. This bout is McVeigh's first fight back since he lost to the former Shooto Featherweight World Champion Masahiro Oishi in the opening round of the Cage Force tournament in Japan back in April of this year.

McVeigh, managed by Warrior Promotions is an exciting and dynamic Bantamweight who was originally known for his background in BJJ. However the young Scottish based Irishman has also added Muay Thai to his repertoire and trains full time with the Dinky Ninja Fight Team at the Griphouse Gym in Scotland.

McVeigh defends his CWFC Title at QFC3 and looks to make his third defence which will see him win the Belt outright if he defeats McCombe in a little over 10 days time. McVeigh was also the first Cage Warriors Featherweight Champion as he captured that title by defeating Chin Weakasingh at Cage Warriors 3 back in 2003.  He then returned to defeat Weakasingh again in September 2004 to win the vacant CWFC Bantamweight World Title after stopping the durable grappler in round 4 by TKO.

McVeigh has since successfully defended his Title against Phil Harris (in 2005) and last time out defeated the BJJ Black Belt Anderson Pereira by submission last October in a sublime display of MMA action. Although McVeigh was defeated in Japan earlier this year, he'll be looking to show that he still dominates in Europe and will not only look to win his Title outright but will also look to show why he is the European number 1 at 61.2kg/135lbs and also book himself another fight in Japan with a convincing win over his Irish opponent.

Whilst Steve "Taz" McCombe will travel to Yorkshire looking to cause an upset and take home the Gold at QFC 3. McCombe represents the EFR Fight Team and is team mates with such established European stars as Greg Loughran, Aiden Marron and UFC veteran Steve Lynch. McCombe Photo courtesy of baddogmma.com.

A veteran of the EFR (prev UFR) promotion in Ireland; McCombe has only suffered defeat against the European Shooto Champion David Lejenas and Irishman Neil Seery, twice and although he is coming off a lost to Seery at the last EFR show, McCombe has been in form with wins over Husen Muhamed, Jan Marsalek and Paul Cowzer in the past year.  The win over Cowzer being particularly impressive on Cage Rage Contenders Ireland earlier this month.

Although he will step into the CWFC cage on June 8th as a big underdog, the EFR Team have shown time and time again that they are not to be underestimated and with previous wins coming by both TKO and Submission, McCombe is not to be dismissed and has the potential to cause an upset if the current Champion takes him too lightly.
