Paul 'Metabolic' McVeigh
Paul McVeigh is an exciting and dynamic Bantamweight who has successfully fused his background in BJJ and submission wrestling, with Muay Thai to give himself a dangerous and varied repertoire to attack foes both standing and on the floor.
McVeigh has been involved in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts since 2002, and over the years he has amassed an impressive pro record, winning numerous Titles and accolades. With wins over the likes of Neil McLeod (Twice), Phil Harris and the BJJ Black Belts; Anderson Pereira and Marcelo Costa, the Scottish based fighter has shown he has the potential to go far and with 9 wins out of his last 11 bouts, he has the form to prove it.
Paul is the reigning Cage Warriors CWFC World Bantamweight Champion and has won the belt outright with three successful defences since winning the Title back in 2004. He is also known as Europe's number 1 Bantamweight fighter and eariler this year competed in the Cage Force Bantamweight Tournament in Japan.
As well as being an elite level competitor Paul is also one of the most respected coaches in the UK. Operating out of the Griphouse Gym in Glasgow, he has helped to produce numerous title holders in Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, MMA and Submission Grappling.
Paul's academic background reflects his interest in Mixed Martial Arts training and performance enhancement. After obtaining a BSci (Hons) in Sports Science, Physiology and Nutrition at the University of Glasgow, Paul went on to further enhance his knowledge by completing the Premier Personal Training and Sport Therapy Diploma. As of this time Paul hopes to begin his MSci in Strength and Conditioning at the University of Edinburgh in 2009.
Warrior Promotions intend to continue McVeigh's progress by sending him back to Japan in 2009 and also break into the lucrative US market where he could become a big star due to his exciting style and likeable personality. On May 23rd the "Dinky Ninja Fight Team" star took a step closer to that goal by defeating the Brazilian Marcelo Costa who recently defeated the Swedish Bantamweight star and TV personality Musse Hasselvall. McVeigh dominated the bout and won an Unanimous Decision to secure his spot as the premier 61.2kg / 135 lbs fighter in Europe.
McVeigh is now looking to fight twice more this year as he looks to push his claim for a spot in the stacked WEC Bantamweight division in the United States.
