Is it a good idea to turn vegi while in training?
For anyone who has done it..Did you love much muscle mass or strength?

Any advice will be helpful.

Don't do it. Unless you have very very very strong reasons you can't eat meat you should be eating it, particularly if you are training.

Otherwise you'll be eating boring protein substitutes, signing onto the dole and wearing synthetic shoes so as not to hurt any poor little animals.

I'm sure that wasn't the answer he was looking for. I don't eat meat and I'm fine

Georges hackenschmidt the great estonian greco roman wrestler was veggie in later life, all he said was to eat eggs and drink milk and eat natural nuts...eat as many veggies and fruit as you want too..plus gallons of water..i recently thought about becoming veggie too...have you seen the recent petitioning against KFC, the cruelty to these animals is sickening  ..Sorry off the subject :D

gonna have to disagree. i was vegan for 2 years until going back to vegetarian about a month ago. It didn't affect my strength at all. As long as you eat fine, you should be all right. i also think it comes down to genetics as well. It can affect some people more than others. check out www.mikemahler.com. he is vegan and is a strength coach. has trained frank shamrock and others. also MMA fighter Mac Danzig is also vegan.

Well, in no way am i denying the positive factors of eating meat (protein etc) I would go back to eating meat if i could bring myself to do it, but i just cant.I would say give it a trial run for a little while and see how it affects you. If your not happy with the results, go back. Like i said before, it affects people differently. I'm sure some people will disagree with certain things, but whatever. As long as you eat right, get your protein intake (shakes, solid food etc) you should be fine.

Iv been both vegetarian and vegan, and i can honestly say that it does seriously effect your training. I didnt quite realise how much until i started eating meat again.I think for normal day to day living and moderate exercise then as a vegetarian you wont notice much difference but if you train hard for example 5+ times a week then avoid it like the plague cause its so hard to keep on top of your diet and most importantly your protien intake.

I was veggie for about 6 years and when I started eating meat again I could not believe how quickly I recovered from exercise , and stopped aching afterwards. Also how much leaner I got as i was no longer eating quite as much carbs.(veggies tend to go a bit heavier on carbs just to fill up especially when training, at least I did anyway). I also have stacks more general day to day energy.

Dont even get me started on being vegan, I was vegan for nearly a year and trying to train hard as a vegan ruined me, I just ran my body in to the ground really quickly. Its just to hard to get full spectrum Aminos from your protien as a vegan. Id like to point out aswell that as a veggie and vegan I ate healthily and avoided eating junk food.

but surely it's not about the meat.. it's just about getting the right amino acids from your food? you can mix your foods well enough and get the same protein result.. and if anything be healthier because of the biproduct of extra vit & mins?

It's all guesswork of course.
My new diet is as much veg and fruit (whilst avoiding too many Kcals and carbs) and eating lean meat quite sparingly. My body has responded so damn well and I'm just as strong, if not stronger now.
