got a toyota carina e, p reg 1800 l , my son decided to hide my only key and cant find it anywhere, think he must ve put it in bin, what can i do to get car going again, using the cheapest route, i know its costly to get new keys as toyota keys have transponder chips in them, i have no spare or code for key.
Thanks
Firstly call the dealership and see what they say, sometimes they can be the cheapest route. I got quoted £200 for a merc key from a auto locksmith that cost £50 from the dealer. You shouldn't have to take your car down (they may ask you to but argue) if you can't get in to it, as long as you have the V5 and ID with an address that matches.
Alternativly look for a local auto locksmith, google it or check the yellow pages. They should be able to break in, turn the alarm off and cut you a new key to use even if they can't replace the transponder chip.

ive got a key that can open the doors so getting into it alarm etc is not a problem, the key i had got cut has no transponder chip in it so cant start the car, toyota quoted me over 400 quid to do it, i have managed to locate a spare ignition/key unit etc from auto parts, ill maybe try that.
thanks

Depending on the electrics if you cut/bypass the right wire you can start it.. ;)
