Have a family legal issue, which means that I need to find out if a particular person has died recently (there's no friends or family to ask)

Is there a public record or goverment websites that list people that have died (and the date) ?

have you tried phoning the local coroner's office ?

After the family have recieved the death cert, then regestered the death the information is publically available.
