hmm. I used to just do 10 minutes on pads and some light stretching.
What a mistake that was.
I'll be doing 20 - 30 minutes total: light pummeling, padwork, stretching, star jumps and press ups.

20-30 mins is dead right.
But why press ups??
all the other stuff I understand and agree with, but press-ups?? I cant see what good that will do. Wont that just burn off energy and not really achieve much? And how many press-ups?
cheers.

Press ups would definately help warm up your upper body. In the past I`ve just done a few sets of say 6-8 just to get pecs, delts, tris warm, wouldnt go anywhere near failure.
A question I have asked a few times on the forums is whether or not you should gas yourself out before a fight. A lot of pro fighters swear by it but I`ve never had the cojones to try it incase I come out and die after about 2 mins lol.

Yeah, one of the lads did it before his last fight cos he said he gases quickly but once he he gets his second wind he gets stronger and stronger for a good while after that. Maybe a good idea especially to counteract gasing cos of an adrenalin dump. I made the mistake in my recent first fight (amateur interclub) to warm up in full view of everyone and show my oppo what I was good at and not so good at. He was a top bloke and came and told me as much in the pub afterwards. You live and learn don't you?!! Dunno bout press ups tho. Each to their own but I wouldnt want to do anything that shortens the muscles, ie weight bearing exercise. Explosive, ballistic stretching is defo needed. My bro took me through a fair to medium work out as my warm up...light padwork followed by intense 10 sec bursts, then light wrestlin and 10sec intense bursts, then the same for groundwork escapes and attacks. I lost but I felt ace goin in and felt good throughout the fight. I always breath heavy and sweat like a bastard right from the start of anything so there was no change there!!!!
