really pleased for this fella, dont know him, never even heard of him before CR.

ok so his striking wasnt very technical, and he was windmilling, but he certainly has a dig on him.

but he seemed a proper nice fella in his post fight interview, really seemed made up to have the crowd cheering for him, and he seemed so happy to be there.

well done Neil Groves, hope to see you in CR again.

Well done - no ill will for JT, but always a pleasure to see an outsider take his chance for glory. At nil notice in a big arena (on live tv) the guy showed a lot of bottle

at 130 kg you would certainly know you have been hit, technical or not !

You can't take anything away from a win.
He won well and quick.
Good for him.
I hear his record is 3-0 now (sherdog says 1-0).
It was scruffy though. hands down with haymakers shooting out.
No doubt he will improve form as his career progresses but I wouldn't bank on him winning many witht that style.
That said, a big congratulations to him.
I imagine James would want a rematch 'cos it seemed a simple lapse that cost him that bout.

Some definate windmill action going on but as a heavyweight if you know your not going to get caught with a counter and your opponents not guarding right, thorwing a couple of haymaker with you weight behind it will put your opposite man ti the canvas, unlucky james

I was gonna make a thread about this but i thought people would get pissed off but i couldnt believe how low the standard was in some of the fights i saw at cage rage.

I met neil groves at ukmmac and he seems like a nice guy but if james thompson is genuinely one of the best fighters in the country he should have been able to avoid an onslaught like that fairly comfortably.

And herb dean just didnt look like he really knew how to fight at all.

I don't know what cage rages criteria for selecting fighters is but ive seen higher quality fights in the shows ive been to at ukmmac and even at ZTs amateur tourneys.

Please dont bite my head off for saying this!

YOU'VE SEEN HIGHER QUALITY MATCHES AT UKMMAC? YEAH RIGHT....

I THOUGHT CR 22 AND THE FIGHTS WERE GOOD,, YEAH OK HEARB DEAN SHOWED HE'S NOT A FIGHTER, BUT HOW WERE THE CR GUYS SUPPOST TO KNOW HE WAS GOING TO BE LIKE HE WAS.....LETS NOT FORGET HE FOUGHT DAVE LEGENO NOT THE GREATEST FIGHTERS IN TH UK, IF THEY HAD PUT LEGENO AGAINST SOMEONE WITH A GOOD RECORD ETC (AS BEFORE) PEOPLE WOULD CRITICISE THEM FOR IT....EITHER WAY THEY CAN'T WIN

youngandhung: DON'T CONFUSE THIS AS ME HAVING A DIG AT ANYTHING YOU HAVE SAID, APART FROM COMPARING UKMMAC WITH ANY MMA PROMOTION.

how would the UKs 'premier' promotion know if herb deanw as gonna be any good?!

are you shitting me! maybe by scouting the fighters before they book them!!
the fights were mainly terrible that were on sky.
I have been to many Ultimate Forces, Battlegrounds, CW’s and even quannums first show…where the quality of match ups were much higher.
In fact maybe that not fair….where the fighters were matched more evenly and the fights were competative

that's the funniest fucking screenname I've seen for ages "youngandhung"

Kudos just for that mate!

I think what Alex meant SUNTANsuperspam :D , was that, they didn't know that Herb Dean was going to perform shit on that night!
That's my interpretation.

SuntanSuperman

I think Gonad, I mean Nomad, that any decent promoter would be able to see that he is a very limited fighter and had no place on a big show…rather than him not performing on the night

I think Gonad, I mean Nomad

Bahaha.

But.. he is a big draw!
Plus, I saw one fight of his on King of the Cage... and it was standard MMA.
Not disappointingly bad.

I wonder how many people Neil will knock out with wild, untidy haymakers before people give him the credit and respect he deserves for stepping up only hours before the fight was due to start.

I don't think Neil OR James really give a fuck how untidy or how immaculate the punch was.

If James had done the same to Aleksander Emelianenko on HIS big debut we wouldn't have questioned it.

It is what it is.

Herb Dean emailed me to ask me to watch CR22 on Proelite.com, even though they blocked me from watching it because I live in the UK, which they knew anyway.

The fucking prick.

I'm made up he's shit.

QUOTE]

1. I cant see him knocking any 1 half decent out with punches like that ever againg.

2. Even if a LOW level striker who knew what he was doing showed up with an hours notice he wouldnt throw shit punches and hope 4 the best.

Not taking anything away from him i was excited when it happned but a fighter like JT should be able 2 cope with that no problem... just look at the picture of the knockout punch man its terrable!

I also saw Neil Groves first fight at UKMMAC.

He fought some big black geezer.

The fight was shit. It was such a low standard of skill they shouldn't have even been on UKMMAC.

The black geezer was a load of old pony. He didn't have a clue...I felt sorry for him...he looked like he should be playing in a jazz band not fighting in a cage. (he didn't fight!) It was just a couple of big guys having a girls / school fight.

I was certain that Groves would lose at CR.

It made me laugh when he came out with his gi and black belt. Said his style was goju ryu karate!! bwaha ha aha ha ha aha

What a cunt...I've never seen anyone throw gay punches like ge did against JT. What a fucking knob. black belt my arse. If he is a black belt it is worthless.

Any-ho JT is also a knob. Mr Glass Jaw. Looks the part. All the gear no idea (nice hair cut! real tough!).

Herb Dean = waste of time / joke.

For a laugh Cage Rage should start tag team fights.

Neil Groves and Herb Dean would make a good team.

I would like to see them fight Shogun and Fedor.

nb. What did Herb Dean get in is eye? dreadlock?

I've spoken to Herb a couple of times - he's a top bloke. Not the best performance, but why are people so scathing?

people expect more than that @ CR but not every fight is going to be a classic, you cannot guarantee every fight is going to be good. Its the same in every sport nothing is certain and you have to take the rough with the smooth. The chances of Herb coming back to CR is pretty slim
