Just wondering. You see all these TaeBo and Boxercise classes say you beurn this many calories per hour or whatever and even things like Boxing and Kickboxing have average Calorie expenditure details in books and stuff.

What about BJJ? Anyone ever seen/heard any info?

I'm sure that I read somewhere that grappling burns around 800 calories an hour but I don't know what the study was based on in terms of intensity etc. I'm sure that an hour of "lay and pray" in someones guard isn't gonna burn anywhere near that amount but a hour of hard, aggressive sparring certainly would.

yeah of course. I guess that is the same for all those ratings, they are just averages. Its also depends on your own body (size, muscularity, etc). I was just wondering about an average. 800 yeah? wow quite a lot

I have a paper which quotes energy expeniture for lots of different activities (not just sports).

It gives a value for wrestling (but only of a 5 min match). It reports the energy expenditure in terms of an increase from your resting metabolic rate (standard practise in science). It says your metabolic rate increases 6 fold during wrestling. If we consider an individual who has a resting metabolic rate of 2000 kcal/ day (83 kcal/ hour), raising this by 6 times would be around 500 kcal/ hour. Obviously this will vary depending on your resting metabolic rate.

interesting.... nice to see a little mathematics involved! Again tho, intensity would play a major part in how high the metabolic rate is raised. Pretty tough to call exactly how many cals you burn...

Flameboy I am shocked and appalled by your blatant trolling recently and rest assured the moderators have been contacted and are keeping a close eye on you. I wouldnt put it past YOU being Dave Clarke!

Or do you just mean I am so relaxed and flow with the go throughout training letting the jiujitsu engulf me and permeate the very being of the universe - then yes I could agree with that.

The next time we roll I am busting out the Ken Shamrock leglocks baby! CHECK YO'SELF FOOL!
