Just wanted peoples opinions on when they stop drinking alcohol prior to a fight? and do you really think it makes a major difference (obviously not the week before)?

Try not to drink to excess anymore ever but a few pints with a meal is OK... Never drink at least 4 weeks before a fight

obviously you cant go out on benders and get pissed with your mates, but then again you dont go eating mcdonals, curries and sweets etc either.
its all about sacrafice, i just dont go out 8 weeks upto a fight so there is no need to drink, but the odd glass of wine with a good meal is no harm...imho

Alcohol is (generally) pretty high in calories too, so presumably you wouldn't want to disrupt your weight cutting/loss/optimisation leading up to a fight either.

i heard rumours of a fighter at pro level, being in the pub having a few pints the day of a fight.
also a couple of fighters out the night before a fight, then turning up with hangover

I try to stop 6 weeks before but make the mistake of still going out at the weekend. Its hard when all your friends are going on at you, who then turn into drunken idiots and you feel like the ' sensible' odd one out.

I think 3 weeks is ample, as long as your training hard still and your nutrition is good. If it directly effects your training then obvisly it is bad but i find a sat night out drinking followed by a full day of rest on sunday and im fine for hard training again by monday.

Doesn't alchol hace close to zero calories in it? I thought it was the hops etc in beer or the mixer with spirits that were the main source of the calories?

I'd say its all the crap people eat, bad attitudes, late nights, and smoke which you encounter whilst drinking was more harmful

Alcohol has 7 calories per gram, and cannot be used as an energy source, leaving only storing as fat as an option.

yeah 7 kcal per gram is right, but alcohol can only be used as an energy source and can't be stored. Alcohol is metabolised preferentially and therefore interfers with (slows down) carbohydrate and fat metabolism.
Thats my understanding! where did you here that it's only stored as fat??

I also believe it would depend on your metabolism, but i would keep away from the drink coming up to the fight, i dont see any harm in having 1 drink though, wine or whiskey can be good for you if you have just a bit/glass.

No idea, will get back to you later, off to do some field trials of the effects of alcohol.

If alcohol could only be stored as fat I reckon id put a good 2lb on every sunday of the year lol
Vodka and suger free redbull has harsly any calories in it.
Did anyone watch that Kids body building program the other month? the 17 year old was drinking dry white wine a couple of days before mr universe to get all the water out of him or thats what he said dont know how it works.
