ive torn them in both ankles. first time was about 8 years ago and cant really recall it. last time was about 2 years ago. took about 1 month till i could walk and move like normal. took a fair while to build up strength in it again, i found running helped. But maybe thats just me

I have done the same thing twice, once was from a toe hold in a fight belive it or not, the second was fallling off a ten fot wall pissed and landing on it... grade 2 tear. Took about 12 weeks to get to the point where I could run fast / sprint. It'll probably never be the same again. :(

if it was a proper tear you wouln't be able to walk let alone play rugby. You've probably just twisted it you fruit:D :D :D

Fucking hell Brad, that must be one VERY important game cos I guarantee you will be doing nothing after it for MONTHS. But I guess it must be for you to take that chance so hope it goes ok.

Strap it up big time then mate and go for it. a few pain killers just before. Get as much pysio treatment as you can in before the game.

do it the Mark Kerr way!!!!!:D

You're going to need to strap it within an inch of it's life.

Does your team have a physio who can do it for you? If they do, try getting hold of him/her before hand and see if they can do some ultrasound on it to at least reduce the swelling.

Good luck though- its going to hurt and you're still going to have to commit to everything as if it was fine, hope it works out well.

Don't forget the Ibuprofen. It's what gets me through my fights when I'm injured :D

Sounds like you're doing everything you can without pulling the game!

I'd have a bad feeling too though. Your ankle is going to be really unstable at the moment.

As for recovery time, I did the ligaments badly in my foot a while back and it took six months with sports therapy to get it back to normal. I started off in plaster and on crutches for that one though!

also just thought. wear the smallest studs posssible to avoid going over on hard gound.

I did mine with slightly illegal league studs in when playing union!! good for rucking and I was 2 inches taller!!!!

brad, i think your a dick for doing this! its not as if its towards the end of your rugby career it? but it could be if you play the game with a fucked ankle, surely missing the national team for a year is more sensible that playing injuried, not being able to give 100% through injury, possibly having a shit game then not get picked anyways and then have to retire early?

good luck though dude

btw league or union?

I had this injury a few years back when i was playing football my ankle swelled the size of a bowling ball (slight over-reaction) but it was huge, i was on crutches for 3months and still limping after 4 months all in all i was f*cked!
I was told you hae 3 ligaments in ankle i torn all 3,after 4 months i went swimming which helped recover so i recommend that mate.

Interesting. Is this within the rules? technically taking pain killers could mean that "Pain" submissions are less effective, any cuts, bruises, blackeyes, etc don't hurt as much.

What drugs are acceptable and what aren't?

cheers widge!
i play league...and is the world cup is next year in australia and its a once in a life time chance to play...as by the time the next one comes around i think the standard in america will have surpassed me. playing for america is something i will never forget...best times of my life

i managed to get thru two 20mins spells at 2nd row and felt pretty good at the time...now im in quite a bit of pain and my ankle is very swollen
but mission accomplished and no further long term damage

w.warrior....your ankle has 3 ligaments and they are like a 't' bu with an extra one going thru the long bit. i tore the long one and damaged the bottom horizontal one...not very nice...but ill be ok soon i hope
