So i've made some room in my garage and thought i'd get a few weights.
Question is do i get a Kettlebell or an Olympic barbell and a bench?
I've never used a kettlebell before but hear good things about them, but then again i've never done any olympic lifts only your standard bodybuilding stuff down the gym ages ago.
I'd like to increase my strength and also use it to help increase my cardio.
Any help anybody could help give me some advice to sway my decision would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Gary.

I love my olympic bar and use it for allsorts (bench press, deadlifts, team quest circuit etc), but I plan to get some kb's as well. Will use them for different things that I cant do with my olympic bar

It doesn't make too much difference, but I would go with barbell just because you can do more and use more load. You can pretty much do anything you can do with a kettlebell with a barbell, but the opposite isn't true.

Thanks guys think i'll get the barbell to start then incorporate a kettlebell later on.
I've got workouts for kettlebells and olympic bar but how would you combine the two into a mma specific workout? Would they just be similar to the crossfit / gym jones style workouts?

Impossible to answer - however, are you at a level that you need a specific workout for MMA?

If you've never used kettlebells before id go with the barbell, plus the barbell will give you mare variations in weight for different exercises and kettle bells can be quite expensive.

I've got both, get a power cage and a good bench thats all u'll need oh and some chalk and a belt- job done.Adam
get someone to coach u the techs of both the kb and oly lifts- they're two different tools with different techs.
use the barbel for heavy loads, and circuits (ala team quest)
kb for strength-power endurance.
will try and get some photos of my "home" gym up here.

I am doing kettlebells twice a week, the technique isnt easy to grasp to start with. I think it is better to be training with Kb's as it uses longer movements/lifts thus not putting pressure on joints/cuffs etc.
This way you have core stength rather then big biceps etc. How do they help you in a fight?
You will build power and endurance as Alex says, once you get the technique, start training in rounds, this is where it becomes tough. The guy training me spent 1 1/2 years in Russia to qualify properly and learn the techniques suitable to teach over here. Only after about 7 sessions 1 hour long have I now got the simplist technique correct, yet from this you can carry it over to the other exercises and increase endurance

No i'm not at any level really, just feel that training like that is best.
Thanks to all for your advice guess its down to finding what suits me best.

get both they, both have there advantages
I have both and would get both, I have a bench as well but not power cage. DLs are fine but I take my life into my own hands doing squats (I lower myself all 6'4'' to take the bar from the bench) . Also any advice on where you can get a good but cheap power cage?
I also have a brand new unused & boxed set of 145kg cast iron plates, bar and clip as per below (I am in Bromley SE London, collection only)

Go to www.video.google.com and do a search on randy couture there is a demo he did somewhere.
Would search myself but i'm to lazy.
I wrote a Teamquest circuit down when I watched a vid... went like this:
6 sets (60 secs between each set).
1. Bent Over Row (10)
2. Upright Row (10)
3. Military Press (10)
4. Good Morning (10)
5. Split Squat (L&R) (8+8)
6. Squat & Push Press (10)
7. Straight legged dead lift (10)
Don't know if it's what you're looking for?
