Anybody recommend any amateur, no head shot, tourneys? Suitable for a novice, and ideally in south of england (though I'd travel to the right event)

I'm thinking 2008, but looking for something to aim towards.

You could do Marcs event in November? Head shots are allowed standing only. This is in Aston Villa, only and hour and half from you

Hmm, November sounds worryingly soon!

Also was sort of looking for a completely no headshots event, (seriously, as amateur as possible) but I'd consider it.

Falcons Martial Arts run a very good and really well attended Grapple and Strike League in South East Wales (Ebbw Vale). It is amateur and has no head strikes.

General H who posts on here is the man in the know for it!

Try the AKA MMA fights - there is two amateur classes:

novice (no headshots at all)
advanced (headshots standing)

http://www.aka-england.org/

on the september 15th show in Milton Keynes and there is another one on the 10th November.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Anybody know if there is a copy of the rules for the Combat Sports Trials online? (Can't find one)

The Combat Open Trials is a great event and a really good introduction (I did the one a couple of weeks ago). The rules are attached to the entry form but as there are no more Open events this year, just the Finals in November there are no entry forms online (that i could find).

But in summary:
- 1 x 4 minute round
- 2 fights on the day
- no headshots
- must wear MMA gloves, shin guards and knee pads
- weight cats: U70kg, U77kg, U84kg, U93kg, O93kg (i think)

Amazingly well run event too!

Thanks. So am I right in thinking the level 3 fights (no headshots) are still in a cage with spectators? Or are they just part of the league events?

I think that it depends on the event; open trials and g+s are both on mats, I think that some events put on no-headshots events in ring/cage (maybe cagekombat and pride+glory?) but I know that some of the posters on the main forum have been quite vocal about that; that no headshot events should be on mats only and that cage fights should be under semi-pro rules as a minimum. Personally, I can see the value in letting people step up at the start of a show with no headshot bouts to get the big-show experience, but i see where people are who are against it are coming from.

UMA- just read the rules; I am right in that this is no headshots standing and no striking at all on the ground? Are heel hooks ok and do you provide equipment (gloves/shin pads?)

g&s league rounds are on mats - the finals are in a ring
g&s fight nights - half level 3 - half level 2 - in a ring
g&s big show - in a cage, we only have about two no head shots fights on these shows though just to start things off
