Ok last couple weeks my net has been slow as fuck. Videos taking forever to load on youtube. Downloads taking even longer! And now even websites are really slow. I checked my troubleshooter on msn and it says....

"You are directly connected to .NET messenger service"

"You are connected to the internet through wired network connection"

"You are connected to the internet through a UPnP port restricted NAT (Administrator)" (This is new, haven't seen it there before.)

It's only started lagging this bad since we downloaded the bioshock and the stranglehold demos on xbox live. What is this UPnP restriction thing??

Dunno - check your firewall, check the relevant ports on the router are open. While you're there do an adaware/spybot scan, can't hurt anyway.

take a look on Cnet for a similar issue and see what people are saying. I resolve more or less every internet issue using Cnet its a great resource

NAT is Network Address Translation, it is a technicque used by firewalls to hide your internal IP addressing and restrict visability of what is on your network. It also enables people to use private IP address ranges internally, as obviously there is a gerneral shortage of public IP address ranges

It is unlikely to be causing you any problems.

It's like to be a bandwidth issue, which means either you have somethig that is using up your bandwidth... spyware, trojans' etc. Some form of Peer2Peer..i.e Limewire, Soulseek, etc.

As you 'share' your broadband bandwisth with other people on your circuit, someone else could be using a lot of bandwidth.

If you have a half decent firewall, you should be able to see what traffic is passing through your firewall and work out if it should be there or not.

i know you have ran spy bot but use adaware as well. As this finds stuff the other misses and vice verser. Also if your running a wireless router without encyption someone could piggy back your connection and hit your bandwidth.
one other useful tool is to use "ctrl alt del" to bring up task manager then look at the proccess Tab, if experianced you can recognise any that are not normally thier. but if not type each one into search engine to see what their assosiatted to and whether you can get rid of them.

BT, I remember when I was on 512 broadband they used to cut us off if we downloaded over a gig. We're on 2mb now, it's only really been like this since my bro downloaded the bioshock and stranglehold demo's on xbox live and they were both over a gig each.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
