Hi Everyone
I am staging a novice kickboxing show in sheffield , Friday night on the 23rd of November 2008.
You have over 2 months to prepare if you have anyone that fancies having a bash at a stand up fight on a novice level.

We will be staging fights under American style and K-1 style rules.
We call american style kickboxing = Full contact, and the K-1 style we call= Oriental rules

FULL CONTACT RULES =
Also known as "shiny pants "kickboxing.
All fights will be either 3x1.5 or 3x2 mins. Predetermined before hand.
In this style of kickboxing , trousers are usually worn (some wear thai /MMA shorts mind you) .
* Punches as in boxing
* ALL kicks must be above the belt
* Footpads are worn
* Footsweep is allowed at floor level.

ORIENTAL RULES
Shorts are used not trousers (MMA/Boxing/Thai shorts,.... all are ok)
* Punches as in boxing.
*Kicks to head body and thighs are allowed
*Use of the knee is allowed
* There is a limited clinch (3 seconds in the clinch)
* NO Elbows or takedowns,...etc

ORIENTAL RULES will be under 3 different levels.

LEVEL 1= this is for raw novices, for shiny pants kickboxers wishing to cross over or for other martial artists mainly:
Fights will be 3x1.5 mins , Leather shinpads to be worn , NO knees to the head allowed.

LEVEL 2 = This is like the standard Thaiboxing novice bout.
Fights will be 3x2 mins , NO shinguards to be worn and again NO knees to the head are allowed.

LEVEL 3 = This will be like the real K-1 style fights or like "Cage kickboxing"
Fights will be 3x3 mins , KNEES TO THE HEAD are allowed too.

Anyone interested please contact :
info_sheffieldkickboxing@yahoo.co.uk

Thank you

Hi mate, think we had a chat weekend b4 last down at Pete Feeley's AM-1 Muay Thai show. I may have some fighters interested but just after some more info first:

What time will the show start? with it being on a Friday we'd need to make sure we could all make it on time after work, travelling from Manchester. Also time of weigh ins?

Is there any ticket deal for fighters/club? how much are tickets?

Do you score for a sweep or does it have to be followed with a strike?

Are spinning backfists allowed?

Under Oriental rules are sweeps/ thai head throws allowed?

What weight gloves and are any other pads required?

Cage or ring?

What is the venue? is there proper warm up area for fighters and medical staff etc. for pre fight check and injuries.

Cheers.

Hi Sherlock
I will answer your questions one by one

1.What time will the show start? with it being on a Friday we'd need to make sure we could all make it on time after work, travelling from Manchester. Also time of weigh ins?

A= first bout= 745pm , weigh in at 6pm, if you think youll be having difficulty getting down then we can get you on later on i.e. after the break so youll be fighting well after 9pm.
Just so happens we have 2 more clubs from manchester coming down. One thaiboxing and one freestyle kickboxing.

2.Is there any ticket deal for fighters/club? how much are tickets?

Tickets are 17/25/30/35
We will talk about a ticket deal.

3.Do you score for a sweep or does it have to be followed with a strike?

Sweeps dont strictly "score" we work on the 10-9 system like in boxing. A successful sweep looks good in the eyes of the judges as do kicks to the head. The judges look favourably upon someone who can land head kicks at will.

4.Are spinning backfists allowed?

NO , unless youre doing a 3x3 mins fight with knees to the head . Even then only if both camps agree.

5.Under Oriental rules are sweeps/ thai head throws allowed?

No sorry

6.What weight gloves and are any other pads required?

10 oz gloves, groinbox and gumshield .
American rules= foot pads and shinguards
Oriental rules= leather shin and instep (novice bouts only)

7.Cage or ring?
Boxing ring

8.What is the venue?

Social club with capacity for maximum of 200-250 people. These are small shows for novices mainly.

9.is there proper warm up area for fighters and medical staff etc. for pre fight check and injuries.

Blue corner warm up in a large games room, Red corner warm up downstairs in a long function room.
Medical staff= Ambulance and 2 paramedics also a Doctor (this doctor is also a BBBC doctor and works on many thai and kickboxing shows in the midlands)

The shows i do are sanctioned by the ISKA.
We will have a chat on the phone to clear up any queries.

Regards
KBI

Thanks mate, I'll let you know if any of my fighters are interested. I just like to ensure my fighters are looked after but it sounds like you have it set up well. If you have a poster you can email me, I'll put one up at my club to help generate interest but we do have a lot of other events on around this time so can't guarantee but will try me best.
Oh, just one more question, with it being a night show I pressume it is just for over 16s or are you holding youths/kids bouts too?

Thats a shame, mind you we have had people from london and thereabouts before , only thing is you will have to book the day off work or prebook accomodation,...etc.
Maybe when i start putting shows on a sunday?

We will have a few junior bouts as well. One of my main fighters is actually a 15 year old boy at 51kg!
We will have junior bouts to start the show off maybe one or two.

Examples of Forumers who have fought on my shows or been in attendance.

1.John Wilson (WalkerMMA) , jumped in last minute on my first show last september (thanks mate youre a life saver)

2.Dion Oakes (Phatbeard) , Local hero always gives value for money. The sheffield crowd wont shut up about this guy!!!

3.Dan Hardy (outlaw , i think) , He brought a younger fighter to my last show and also had a substitute fighter ready to fight if needed. Dan also signed a pair of gloves for a charity auction which was nice of him.

4.Richard Kenny (Richgate) , An independant fighter with a lot of guts. Real gentleman too.

5.Mark Spencer (spenna) , judged on one show and did a superb job (even though the scorecards were not needed on a few of them :biglaugh:
Had an excellent fight on the next one.

6.Bruce from wolfslair (the guy who teaches stand up to Bisping). He is the man in the middle , the Ref!!! He is the best ref we have had so far so we will have him again!

If I have missed anyone then im sincerely sorry.
This next show promises to have yet MORE people from the forum in attendance or actually fighting.
If you want any feedback on the shows then ask one of the above people.

It was a cracking little venue and a superb atmosphere, and i was well looked after. The crowd are really close to the ring so it makes you fight harder (I think) and Farhad always matches fighters fairly. Also there was paramedics and a doctor on hand.

Hi Phil,
Try to hover around between 70-72kg, youre fighting the guy from the north east (NOT the kung fu guy, he keeps shrinking and is now 66kg LOL)
Ticket prices vary but you get a comission on the 10 tickets you sell :D
You are allowed 2 cornermen.
Well have a chat tomorrow morning if youre free.

LOL then youll really need the medics and doctor ROFL!

On a serious note, i always make sure i have paramedics as people can get KO'd and if they do you need medical supervision on hand to jump straight in.
We always get at least 2 or 3 KO's or TKO's.
We also have a Boxing events specialist doctor present , expensive but worth it in the long run.

We will have about 12/13 fights on.

Best wishes to all of you in your fights and may you all give 100%
I hope you all enjoy yourselves.
