Just interested.

I have just started but still want to keep weight training aswell, wondered what type of routines fit around MMA, Id have thought explosive strength is very important.

Im currently doing a 3 day routine for powerlifting which I like doing.

What type do some of you fellas do?

I just use weights in circuits, like do a number of hindu squats, V crunches, Pull Ups, press ups n maybe add some bicep curls. I still do bench though, 5 x 5 and an alternate week 3 x 10 of a lower weight (so I don't wreck my shoulders too much).

At my level of experiance with no upcomming fights why not?

It's more effective than reading what not to do and as a result doing nothing ;)

It's a general specific strength routine. Not too taxing, but should provide some beneficial strength gains.

Hmm, I don't see any general specific exercises in there...

Strength gains - depends on the reps, which you haven't mentioned. What kind of strength anyway?

Are you basing your example on what you need to do then? Maybe you should mention that..

I do weights, have a setup at my home, cardio equipment, free weights and bench.

I used to bodybuild in the past, now styled my training to keep my muscle size and cut any body fat. So just to maintain my muscle i am doing 1gm protein to 1lb of body weight. I have started looking at Jeff Monsons training styles and the combat guys that train him. He has a few pages each month in ultimate grappling....

if you don't train with weights, and expect to be a complete fighter, you'd be a complete fool.

Not sure who this is aimed at but maybe re-read my initial post if its at me, I do train, I was wanting to know which type of routine would be most effective for MMA. :D

Ive been bodybuilding for a few yrs then switched to powerlifting, hence the bodyfat is sitting around 12-14%.

Well I assume powerlifting will be more useful for MMA than bodybuilding.

I used to arrive at the gym early and hit the weights before the training session started. I only did grappling though and I'm not sure it's the best way to train because I was never fresh for grappling as the weight training had taken a lot out of me.

I assume it's best to do weights and MMA on different days. It's just if you have the dispipline and motivation to keep up doing both.

The place where im training does mon, wed, fri

I was thinking of dropping to maybe tues & thurs or tues and sat, don't wanna burn out, or especially be sore for training etc.

The strength is one of my strengths but im carrying maybe a little too much muscle for my height, I think ill eventually slim down to maybe 13st or so.
