the Irish and the scottish make me giggle in general, but I love the sattire and sarcasm that we posess.
In fact, I'd say that the Aussies were pretty close for a second spot, but the English first place.

It comes down to the stand up we currently have, such a high level.
I think we are better now than when we had the "classics" such as Tommy Cooper, M&Wise and the Two Ronnies.

With the likes of Jimmy Carr, Lee Evans, Jack Dee and other uber sarcy borderline offensive comics, we lead the field in lol comedy.

don't be so pedantic you big wuss.

Sanjeev was born in London (England) and his parents are Indian.
Tommy was born in Wales but was English Spoken.

And so on.

besides.. with Mitchell and Webb, on any scale, we win.

CSmith07 you are very naughty. You are not allowed to vote for yourself and as you are the only comedian form Scotland your vote should be deemed void. :D

Frankie Boyle is quality.

Billy Conelly paved the way for all modern day stand ups. Nearly all comedians list him as one of their main influences.

Having said that Johnny Vegas and Lee Evans do make me titter.

Dont think any one nation can be declared but if there was it would obviously be the Scottish. Purely for the fact that we have convinced the whole world that its ok to wear a skirt as long as you call it a "Kilt".

Lee Mac is good.

But Chris Rock is hilarious also.

No one country can lay claim to be the funniest.

I would say the yanks are the funniest looking though.

My faves are:

Richard Pryor
Chris Rock
Bill Hicks
Billy Connelly
Lee Evans
"That Scottish guy" from Mock the Week
David Mitchell
Jimmy Carr
Jack Dee
Paul Merton (only on panel shows)

Off the top of my head, I don't like any comediennes, that's not because I'm sexist, there just aren't many pros that do the female comedy world justice.
French and Saunders are great in a show and Jo Brand is quite boring at best stand up.
Victoria Wood is smart, but not hilarious.

I've seen some amateur females that were genuinely hilarious, but no pros that grace the circuit now.. :-(
