Well, that was one hell of a lot of fun!
Went over to Woking BJJ, taught by our forum's own Andy Roberts, and it was first class and a session recommended to all! Andy has had some damn good competition results, they speak for themselves, so his own fighting isn't in question. But his coaching is a different matter...
But no worries, he's a skilled coach too! I was very impressed, he has a detailed skillset that any skilled BJJ fighter would have, and could put it accross in the appropriate manner so that the entire class picked things up very, very quickly. He was attentative to all the class members too, and keeping one eye on him while training he seems skilled in giving the little tips and corrections that are the difference between techniques working or not. With well over 20 in the class, I've never seen so many skilled white belts!
Further, the class was very, very friendly, and through training I realised there were a few other judoka there too. Same idea as me - a good bit of related and effective cross training!
So it was a really good session, well executed, and definately enjoyed. Where my schedules permit I will be over there as soon as opportunities arrive, together with going to his Guildford class on Tuesdays where possible too. Looks like I'll be over next Friday too - Kirsty's off to see the dreaded Spice Girls so I've got a Friday night pass again!
So a big thanks to Andy for the training, I'll definately be back and am buzzing with how much I learned!
