Hey, Ive looked high and low online for anywhere to train in Hertfordshire - more specifically the Hatfield/Welwyn/St Albans area and found absolutely nothing.

If anyone knows of any MMA/Wrestling/SubmissionWrestling/BJJ classes/schools please let me know.

Hey, the Monster Gym place is in Cheshunt which is about 30 minute drive and I dont drive so its not really accessible for me.

I tried contacting the Tokon people, both through email and on the phone. The email address isnt even working/alive and that phone number also seems to be dead. I think the Tokon Academy relocated to Bedfordshire, because on their website all the sessions seem to be in Bedfordshire and there is no mention of those classes in Welwyn Garden City.

Like I said, Ive looked/tried all the places that are listed online. Im wondering if people know of places that maybe have not advertised online or have only just started.

Thanks,
Vince.

Hey, Im aware of that club - and if I get my driving sorted I'll go train there but for now Im limited to Hatfield/Welwyn and St Albans as those are the places I can access quickly and cheaply via bus.

I already train Judo and Kickboxing so I cant really afford to pay to get the train into London every week, thats why Im being so specific.

Out of curiosity is the Mill Hill Club good?

I know there is a BJJ class in Luton but that is on Tuedays at the same time I have Judo so its not possible, I would have been willing to make that trip though.

Storm gym in Luton might be worth a look if you can travel to there.

I just looked at St Albans Muay Thai, they train at the gym in Toulmin Drive from 4-6 so I doubt theres MMA then/there.

Ah well, guess theres no hope. Hopefully something opens up soon, if anyone wants to train/spar that lives local send me a PM or something.

Thanks,
Vince.

Hatfield, St. Albans and such is only a half hour from Aylesbury down the M25 and A41. I train with Kev Capel and Neil McLeod here.

If you PM ANTONM or BRETTS they will give you all the details you need for monsters, or www.myspace.com/monstersmma should have the details aswell, good session and a great bunch of guy's down there, very closely associated with pancrase london as well.

Also, Neil is awsome and a bang on session as well if you can there, but going round m25 and a41 it's a lot longer than 30 mins I have always found, but worth it.

hi i live in broxbourne next to cheshunt and the gym's website said it has open mats for MMA training etc. they have a ring and eveything as well as a huge gym!

problem is i emailed them about MMA classes and got nothing back and also there is no metion of it on the site. I cant find any where in hertford either mate and am desperate to start training MMA.

i know they have wrestling in Hatfield but dont have a link as there is no site but im sure it is there Tokon i hear is no longer there which is a shame.

looks like you will have to look around more and train all aspects of MMA as there does not seem to be a place in the county where they can be trained all together.

if you find anything let me know.

Most of that information is hugely out of date. I contacted both numbers for Tokon and Hatfield Wrestling and neither exist anymore.

I believe the Tokon Academy is based in Bedfordshire now.

My Judo instructor said he has been approached about teaching grappling at a new gym opening up in Hitchin. It will be called the North Herts Combat Centre, and its basically the Minotaurs Muay Thai guys that train in Edgeware's new gym. But as well as Muay Thai I think they want to start up some MMA classes and eventually a team. Its still all in the planning stages regarding actually starting up the MMA though, nothing confirmed yet.

I lived in Herts for years and was always looking for a club; there is nothing in the area- I went into london to train. One of the big london BJJ clubs should really look at starting a satellite club in Hatfield, St Albans or Stevenage, probably a lot of potential members.

IF YOU PM ANTONM OR BRETTS, you can get the details of monsters times, sunday's 10 till 12, tuesday evenings and fridays I believe, but check with Anton or Brett for fridays...........you will not get any details through the bodybuilders website. Though if anyone in or around Potters Bar wants to train in the mornings during the week, drilling and the such, pm me.

Its gi unless there is a no-gi comp coming up.

You can show up without a gi and there will be guys who will roll with you but you won't get the same level of instruction as its basically a gi class.
