You could always try Bushido MMA in Notts City Centre, home of Roughhouse and a great place to start off as they have a lot of different classes every night each week from MMA to thai to BJJ to sub wrestling...

Do not train there! I can tell you plenty of other places to train. You'd be better fighting yourself outside a pub than going there.

We teach bjj on monday and tuesday nights in long eaton and sandiacre, billy schoolar runs a few classes around long eaton (he's SBG affiliated and a top guy) Billy used to teach at gladiators but has more self respect than to stay there. Also Ski has just opend up a new place teaching MMA and again he's a top bloke.

Drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch with some different people.

Trying to remain impartial by not referring to the place mentioned in the first post! Loads of places to go to allow you to avoid going to the place I don't like to mention. I know a lot of people don't have transport for nottingham so hence keeping it local to moth eaton.

Billy tends to do more no gi now, we do mainly gi work, few guys around long eaton for stand up/mma also so plenty avoiding the glad... crap I nearly said it!

I heard Gladiators was the only K-1 center in the Midlands - gotta be pretty good.

And their head guy Serge, a real big guy who's supposedly gonna be fighting mma soon - watch out uk hw scene

there are many stories surrounding the man, so many he could possibly be a legend. One such story is that in one of his fights he was going at such a pace the timer seemed to sound early, but that is only a rumour.

Okay, this is how it is.

This gym has no idea regarding mma. Billy Schooler used to do a class there until he was pushed out by the "management" because of his refusal to toe the party line. These guys will get someone hurt and bring disrespect to mma in general. The coach there has no morals and will get people hurt. Simple fact.

billy schoolar, bushido mma, rob hannis and his lot would be far better choices in the area.

Gladiators has an idea how to make money short term. In this process i believe they will get innocent people hurt and take them for a ride.

If you need to challenge me on this Serge my number is on my website

www.sbguk.co.uk

i have no idea of the liable laws but am willing to risk it as me and my associates have spent many years trying to promote this wonderful sport.

i am available to discuss this publically any time you require, maybe at your new mma show that i believe will be a farce and will probably have many innocent kids hurt.

whats with the rough house bashing?

Much more gladiators bashing I think you'll find. Have trained at bushido and enjoyed it, was simply replying to the fact he was in long eaton, there are gyms in long eaton and not to train at galdiators.

In response to carl he is very correct, Billy was happily doing his thing there before being squeezed out. The gym is left teaching MMA by people who don't have a clue about it, it is a danger and a stain on the game.

I have heard on the grapevine that the mma show is off thankfully, hopefully the short term money taking will catch up soon enough.

jeebus, i had no idea they were actually doing mma now - as far as i was aware they were a kickboxing gym and one seen as a bit of a clown outfit at that.

I know they had a guy doing some decent thai for them there, who also left due to what i'm told were disagreements with fatty.

just in case my earlier comments might be misconstrued; and without knowing the detail of some other posters on this thread - don't bother training there.

Clown in one disciple clown in many! While there is an mma gravy train to be jumping on there'll be some people who love gravy, and meat, and pies and......

The decent thai guy you mentions now owns his own gym in sandiacre, and we do some bjj there also.

I think Ski also did some stuff there until he left to open his own place. Seems like a trend to me.

i was asked to help a lad that trains there

Rob Hannis

i was asked to help a lad that trains there, for an mma fight, he's 19, had a few kickboxing fights and not done all that good but ok,
they were putting him in as a pro for his 1st ever mma fight against a lad thats 3/0/2 and 26 years old,
when i asked who was helping him he sed he was just doing a bit of ground work with a lad (oh that'll help) and that was it.
i hope now the show is off he mite not fight then.

Exactly why we are worried, hoping this show really is off.

thanx to you all for replying.
im from the notts area and so notts or le are fine to travel too. i did actually go to bushido mma about a year ago. i went there for a couple of months, however my shift patterns meant that i could not attend enough and i also had some seriously big family and work commitments at the time, so i fell on my face really and i was pretty gutted about not being able to stick with bushido. i thought bushido mma was great, the instructors were really good and it was very welcoming and friendly, as well as superb training. i asked about gladiators because my time has freed up a little now and so i can be thinking about learning martial arts again, however i do need a routine to stick too, as sporadic training is no good and i did not want too waste the people at bushido (or anywhere elses time). i have since spoken to billy schooler and started training there (last week), as his times can be fitted around my horrid work times!! hopefully now i can start to learn properly and without having to deprive myself of too much sleep to do martial arts!!!!!!
again thank you all for replying to me, thank you as well for pointing me in the right direction and keeping me from the wrong direction (you all know what i mean!!!), maybe when i get a little more time (at the end of the college year and course) i can perhaps get back down to even more training, in the mean time thanks to you all for helping me out. hopefully now i can start training properly and shifting this beer gut once and for all.
take it easy.................shaunb
