I went to a judo session last night that had a guest coach - on here you might call it a seminar. The session was for an hour and a half at the cost of a fiver. The session was with vitaly makarov who is a former world champion.

There was a question and answer session at the end, the first question was asked by some guy with xXx tattooed across his chest. this numpty asked makarov if he had ever had to use judo off the mat - makarov replied im a lover not a fighter.

I asked what went into his preparation before his world championship final with Kanamaru. (Having already heard a whisper from Kanamaru's camp)

Makarov answered with this.
In the warm up room Okada (kanamaru's coach) was deliberately showing Kanamaru some of my techniques in front of me in an attempt to psyche me out, so i went up to Kanamaru and said if you want to know what to feel for when you fight me you may as well feel it from me, not your coach. So i grabbed hold of Kanamaru and proceeded to slam him on the warm up mats. i burried him 4 or 5 times till Okada separated us.
We both went out there and had an open match but i knew i had already beaten him.

2x W = ippon/ 10 points/the knock out blow

It is easier to understand the scoreboard as a thousands, hundreds tens and units columns.

lol @ 3.00 into the vid, Kanamaru fails with the seio nage so turtles. Makarov waits a moment, then brutally osotos him from the knees. awesome. shame it wasn't allowed

further testament to the fact that judo is one of the most demanding contact sports there is. work rate wise its freestyle wrestling with a gi. some of the toughest bastards i have ever rolled with have been out and out judoka's.

the difference in conditioning in judo and wrestling v's something like bjj is scary.

Makarov can climb rope with ease with about 20 - 30kg on him; has great muscular endurance and power.

Awesome match, amazing to see Makarov step off the big throws from Kanamaru time after time :D
