I am looking to save money where possible at the moment. I used to buy those cartons of ready mixed smoothies for health purposes but I'd been told they put a fair bit of sugar in to make them taste better also it works out cheaper and better making your own.

I have started making smoothies now and putting my daily scoop of whey protein into that along with my other supplements such as spirulina and kelp.

Anyway would it make any difference if I consumed the smoothie immediatley after making it or left it for a few hours in terms of the nutritional content, particularly protein? This might sound a strange question but I am just checking.

Also while Im here let's talk about good smoothies-what goes well together? What is ideal after training? etc, etc.

The fresher the smoothie or juice, the better. When you process the fruit, cell walls get broken down and proteins start to be broken down by some of the cell enzymes so the nutritional value drops.

Thanks.

Any suggestions on actual smoothies anyone?

If you do have to leave it stick it in the fridge.
