ok I'm just staring out and need sine advice from you guys,I'm 26 and a massive ufc and mma fan. I have ordered myself a free standing punch bag that will go in my room along with any other equipment that I need. Can any of you guys help me out on equipment, exercise techniques and any vitamins I need.

best bet would be to join an mma gym they will tell you everything and already have everything sorted for you.

I would agree - 'other people' comes pretty high on the list when deciding what you need to learn to fight.

Alex just wants someone to punch.
Seriously though, my combinations on the pads are devistating - Jay Darrell devistating - in the ring though.....dumb de dumb dumb, and whilst DVD instuructionals are a good training aid, I don't think you can master skills with them alone.

Alex just wants someone to punch.
Preferably you, with a swift left hook....
And yes, I am victorious over the bag every time....but the bag doesn't hit back.

If you search these forums in the training/ nutrition etc threads you will find pretty much all the info you need to get started but most importantly you need to find a gym and training partners.

thanks for the advice guys as I said I'm just starting out so would like to get myself into a good shape first and then see where I want to go from there. I have a mate at work and his wife is a personal trainer so she has given me some advice, all I wanted was to know what sort of food to eat and what kind of portions and also what vitamins I need just like to get me to a descent enough shape. I'm 26 as I said and I weigh about 12 stone but I would maybe like to be between 13~14 solid muscle

My personal advice would be to go and start training now. If you wait to be the shape you want you will never go. If it is just the muscle/ size you want to put on them maybe MMA isn't your best bet.

Start training at an MMA club. That will get you in decent enough shape. Bg difference between results you get a a gym and through training. Toomany people put it off cos they wanna get big first, never happens.
What town are you in? Am sure if you post that, you'll get directions on the forum to yr local club.

(If you plan on learning to fight and/or actually fighting one day, rather than just doing it for fitness) That is probably the worst thing you can do from a motor learning perspective. What you will do is teach yourself how to punch (or whatever) badly/dangerously, which will take months for someone that knows what they are doing to correct further down the line. Of course, if you are just looking at hitting a bag for stress release, the advice may differ (although getting enough technique to minimize you chances of injuring yourself would help).
If I were you I would decide what I want to do, find someone that knows what they are doing and ask them to help you achieve it.
This advice does not only apply to hitting a bag.

Run some classes in Grangemouth itself and I think the Headhunters train in Linlithgow for MMA but their forum is members only. EDIT turns out it's Boness that the Headhunters train out of!
If you want to do this get to a class and do it right, it's not only better training but so much more rewarding than training on your own.

Tom Blackledge runs a club in Wigan (ish), he knows his shit and has some good guys training with him (and a little d'waf girl :D). Outside of that, you should be able to get to a number of other clubs within a short drive, i.e. Colosseum in Leigh, Atherton Wrestling in Leigh, etc, etc
Tom posts on here from time to time, so drop him a pm

Why are you diving in straight away and looking at supplements and vitamins etc?
If you're not used to training at all your best bet is just to go join an MMA (or boxing, BJJ, Muay Thai etc) gym and training there for a long while before worrying about anything else. They will get you fit and give you the basic skills you need for fighting.
Once you have got a good base fitness level, only then do you need to start on supplements etc.
Even if you want to do powerlifting or bodybuilding, you're better off training without supplementation first. You won't be capable of training hard enough to really need it at first.

Aaron is correct, apart from the 'little d'waf girl' bit. 'A lovely petite lady' is a better description :p

Best way to get in shape is by going to a gym and doing MMA drills/padwork/sparring off the bat! Best kind of fitness IMO.
