At the heavier end, I'm guessing they used standard categories (125, 135, 145, 155, 170 etc). But what are the weight classes below these? Diane Berry mentioned 48kg, which is around 105/106lb. Are there any specified weight brackets for women?

The most logical weight categories for women would be something like

105, 115, 125, 135, 145...

105 is a weight class in Japan, as is 115/116. The next one used by smackgirl is 128, which is reasonably close to the more common international class of 125. 135 seems to be where a lot of the action is at the moment.

EliteXC have stretched the 135 class to 140, for obvious reasons. So far it's unclear how this is going to affect the other weight classes, although I believe the Aisling Daly fight at Cage Rage was supposed to be at 130.

They definitely seem sensible

ps - 140 may need to be stretched to 145

yeah they need to have separate weight classes, this will help more fighters come into the game

Well, that would fit better with the existing categories, and there's even starting to be a bit of competition at that weight now.

105, 115, 125, 135, 145... seem logical with maybe 155 and even 170 in there too?

sounds fair enough - they wouldn't have to be "women's" weight classes, either

I think that it definately shouldn't be "women's" weight classes. That puts a devide between MMA and female MMA, which is not going to push the birds sport forward. It simply needs to addition of the weights mentioned above.

LOL at talking about promoting women's MMA and referring to it as "the birds sport".

As you know John, I am not known for my appreciation of femal combat sports, I have not intention of being someone who is "promoting" it.

I agree with those weight classes
