View Full Version : Using whey protein for recovery (not bulking)

Still out here training my ass off in Thailand and got given a HUGE tub of whey protein by a guy who is leaving back to Holland. I don't usually take suppliments, but thought seeing as it was free I might as well.
I'm currently at 68KG and in the best shape I've ever been in (in my opinion) and don't really want to gain any weight, in fact if anything I'd like to lose another 1KG so I can fight at 64KG in July... See how that goes.
So basically if I am training twice a day (2 hours in the morning, 3 hours in the evening) when would be best to take it and how much a day?
Thanks in advance :)

If you got it free then just get it in you! There's another thread about this some where, if you're training that much I wouldn't think it'll make a great deal of difference when you take it as your bodu will probably need it all the time. You could try it between meals, or just take one after each session. Sport-select was talking about some studies where taking it before is beneficial as it's in your system ready to go for when you need it.
Just take it I reckon!

This is the sort of situation that sports supplements are made for. For your situation I'd recommend taking a serving after your morning training session and half a serving before your evening session. Depending on what you're eating before your morning session you could possibly have half a serving before that. Take all of these with carbs.
With training 5 hours a day you probably won't have to worry about bulking....

1 or 2 servings a day between meals.

Take a serving after each training session and one before bed as thats the time the body does all its maintenance and recovery work.
You won't get fat on protein, not unless your overeating everything else too and then its not really the protein but an abundance of calories.

I take about 100-150g per day via meals and protein shakes.

Thats not a lot for anyone who is training a lot and carries a bit of muscle. You could probably increase that and it would do you good.
