There's wolfslair in Widnes, and one at Camm Street in Crewe. Problem with Camm Street is it's not actually a lesson as such, just people turning up and rolling with each other.
If you want to go a little further out of cheshire, there's Atherton Submission fighting in Atherton, then plenty in Manchester...

Twenty minute drive to Liverpool and you have next generation in town centre its the best in north west in my opinion, go onto nextgenmma.co.uk.

I come from a bodybuilding and thai boxing background, with absolutely no ground work experience (apart from a couple of renbukai lessons). Would I be ok to go along or do I need ground experience first?

Not really the case anymore! There is usually a warm ups, then drills or a technique before moving on to sparring/groundwork/all-in. I agree that newbees are thrown in at the deep end a bit but I think they learn more from this and anyone who takes advantage of this is a dick and would not be welcomed back.
