May be best travelling to Ipswich - big MMA class Tuesdays 6.30-9pm at Martlesham Heath Police HQ: www.bluewavemartialarts.com
Also I know there's a BJJ club in Witham: www.teamryu.webeden.co.uk
Hope this helps.

Hi Shakus
Yeah as InchbyInch said, the only real true MMA club is in Ipswich......or Bury/Lowestoft etc if hes willing to travel.
There is a good general martial arts school SD school of martial arts in Colchester, good facilities and people, i used to train there, covers Muai Thai, BJJ etc and i think when i left they were considering an MMA class?? might be worth enquiring.
They also run Krav Maga, Escrima, all sorts of other stuff if hes interested.
Think as soon as i get back from China im going to head to Martlesham for Bluewave, try and get to the BJJ classes in Bury...
...and if im correct InchByInch arnt Bluewave going to be running MMA and BJJ classes out of the 'The Fitness Unit' in Ipswich? Gonna be starting the spartan training classes they are running soon, so may be handy! :)

I'd be interested to know who at SD is doing BJJ classes since recognised instructors who gan grade students are very few and far between in this area - I think it's probably traditional Japanese JJ they do. I think one of our guys may have started some classes out of the 'The Fitness Unit' but as I said the main class in Ipswich is at Police HQ Martlesham. The BJJ there is under a brown belt BlueWave brings up from London. I always look at the quality/experience of the coaches as lately more and more people seem to be putting together 'MMA classes', I even met a guy the other day who said he had been training classes in 'Street Brazilian Jiu Jitsu' although I can't remember specificaly where he said this was.

Hey Shakus,
I'm a guy from the aforementioned Team Ryu club; i live in Colchester and attend the college there, and i regularly travel to Witham for the classes, they're not MMA at Witham, but the club run MMA classes across the county, including Southend and Maldon, whichever is easiest to get to (Maldon from Colchester is a very easy ride). BJJ is top notch, we're a GB Birmingham affiliate.
We used to have a couple of Para lads down at the gym, unfourtunatley they're in Afghanistan at the moment, god bless.
If you want any sort of rundown on what happens in the classes or anything, check my blog at http://revtheluke.blogspot.com , or the team site at www.teamryu.webeden.co.uk (www.teamryu.webeden.co.uk), or even shoot me a PM if there's anything you wanna ask.

I did email SD last february or so (don't quote me on that), and asked what their Jiujitsu class was, was it Brazilian, etc.
They didn't even mention BJJ, just said "it's the ancient fighting art of the samurai".. avoided like the plague :).

Yeah...whats wrong with Colchester out of interest?
I was at SD doing Krav and kick boxing at the time and saw a flyer in reception saying they were going to start BJJ classes and some MMA, but having moved jobs i never looked into it any further..
....so just thought it was worth a look thats all as they had very good facilities there

Come along to the Team Ryu classes in witham, plenty of guys to roll with and the thai boxing class can get pretty intense.
Paul, one of the instructors there does hold an mma class at witham headquarters on a wednesday night. Its more technical aspects but still a damn good class.
Hi guys just picked up your thread re MMA in Colchester. I run a club out of Champions boxing near Nth Station. I train regularly with Blue Wave in Ipswich although I fight under Gracie Barra Bath. Classes are three nights a week go to http://completefightingsystem.synthasite.com/ for further info.

No offence intended, just couldn't remember if you did in the first place or not :). Badly worded on my part.
