It is with great regret and passion I have decided to cancel the Cleveland coastal BJJ tournament.
At 9.0clock this morning I had only 30 definate competitors. I feel a very poor show, and this is dissapointing not only for myself but for those who were willing to travel the distance i.e. London and Edinburgh...sorry to let you down lads!
I constantly read the forum blogs highlighting the fact that there is a lack of northern comps and frustration at the northern open being in Birmingham, hence the development of Cleveland Coastal est:2006. I have tried to bring something to the north east to meet the alledged need.!
Well i think you have your answer.
The amount of time and planning and monies spent up front and now lost, Im sure people do not understand or comprehend.
I would like to thank those who had entered and those who have helped at the two previous successful events of BJJ CC.
Cleveland Coastal is no more.
Happy travelling

Sorry to hear that mate, some of our guys have attended your tourney previously and said it was a real good competition.
I was just thinking the same about our kids competition which is planned for the same day as your tourney unfortunately. The amount of time, effort and money that goes into organising something only to have no support
People piss and moan about not having things, then when they have the opportunity they don't bother.
The amount of people that are going to do something when this is better or that is better and they have no intention of doing anything.
Yep, I'm pissed off too.

hi shaun
very sorry to hear mate, i no from experience its hard work and nobody appreciates it, i know you would have had support from us (brasa sunderland) and dave elliott.
props to you for the effort mate and just trying to promote the sport you love.
maybe we should talk about combining the NEGC and Cleveland coastal in one big venue.......

Very sorry to hear the bad news but not suprised really tbh, going off what Darren says and in my own experiences, people moan about the lack of events etc and when you go and arrange something at great expense, only for people to let you down, nearly always at the last minute (and I speak from experience as well) is so frustrating, it makes you wonder some times why the fuck should you bother putting yourself out on a limb, be it arranging comps or even teaching classes.
Like the saying goes, you only realise what you've had until it's gone and that certainly rings true with the loss of the Cleveland Coastal, a really good event gone for good.

It's a shame it's gone for good, but don't be so bitter lol
This is me trying to be constructive, I'm not saying I could do any better (couldnt!) and I'm not taking the piss..
I think the timing was a bit off, between two of the major tournaments on the 2008 calender the Mundials the weekend prior and the adcc uk nationals the week after, If people want to spend money on tournaments it will normally be those.
The registration could have been done online maybe? - That way guys once they commit by registering online - and would be more likely not to drop out, plus lazy people like me like being able to just register online then maybe you could have had more freedom putting out competitor lists ala' NEGC.
And I know I whinged about this enough (lol) - but not answering peoples queries or questions, it really makes people wonder about how things are going if they don't get a reply so they tend to hold back on registering..
I know I'm guilty of dropping out lol, but I had financial reasons I couldn't make it, and I've never backed out of a competition I've registered for before.
That being said I've enjoyed all the previous CC's I've done before and it is a shame to see it go, plus you have already been a friendly guy to meet and chat to at events.. Hope you reconsider not organising another.
