Without wanting to cause a Gi-war which Gi's do you prefer for BJJ, if cost was not an issue.
We are just starting to have gi bjj and would like to know what you think.
Thanks

My Keiko Raca is my favourite but it's old and pretty worn out now. I quite like my Vulcan ultralight too.

Single weave is thinner & lighter, double is thicker, more durable and a nightmare in the summer!

I have an Atama single weave which I really like the fit on though it's a bit grubby now.
I have a blue Koral mkm which is the dogs. A bit heavy in the summer but nice.
I've just bought a Keiko Raca white gi at a very nice price from mr Bessa:D picking it up Thursday can't wait

My black Koral competition Gi is the nuts but most of the time I wear a Vulcan double weave, does an excellent job for the price. Also have (just for fun but still excellent quality) a Fuji Desert Camoflague gi...so they don't see me coming.
for Comp I use the Atama single weave cos its light and more flexible.
For training I wear the MMA Gear Gi from MMAUniverse. Its very heavy and the lepels are stiff

thanks guys for all the feedback, I appreciate it. I dragged my old Judo gi out last night for a bjj session, I have not worn it for about 4 or 5 years and it has shrunk (or have I got fat), very funny to see.
time for a new bjj gi!

Had my keiko about 2 yrs fits really well although it did wear quite quickly it hasn't progressed past its' worn state yet.
My koral is probably the most comfortable had it for years and only the trousers are showing their age
Bought an atama at christmas and really impressed with that although still early days for seeing how it holds up.
A lot down to cost in terms of choice really, but favourite ignoring cost is the koral.

Can't beat Gameness platimum weave for sheer durability... Keiko are comfy but they do shrink quite a bit and tend to start showing their age. I recently bought a Gameness Pearl lightweight gi which seems ok, hasn't shrunk and is great for summer training.

I recently got a Padilla and Sons Gold Weave direct from www.matrat.us - only £64 posted. So far I'm very impressed - soft and strong and seems a better quality Gi than the Keikos and GB gi some of the guys at the gym have (loads cheaper too :) ) The smashpass review sold it to me.

Ive just started training in a GI and Im really enjoying it.
I understand the idea behind having a training GI and a competition GI, even a summer Gi and a winter GI, but whats the thinking behind having several different GIs? Is it like a collectors thing, or like having ten pairs of jeans or jackets or something? Its cool though.

It is a hobby thing, and it's no different to any other hobby in that regard. You enjoy doing something, so you spend your money on it. I wonder how many pairs of Sprawl etc shorts the no-gi and MMA guys have? Probably more then they actually need, but they enjoy their hobby and enjoy spending money on it.
It usually goes something like this: You have your first gi, maybe it's a cheap Judo gi, but you're not entirely happy with how it fits. So you think, "well I'll get a proper BJJ one". So you get it and you love it, but after 6-12 months you think "I could do with another proper BJJ gi and I'll just use my Judo one for emergencies. And this time I'll get one by a different make, cos Joe Bloggs at the academy has one and it looks a good fit". And then you get it and you love it, so you think "Next payday I'll get another of these, but in blue this time". So you get it, but for some reason it doesn't fit as well, maybe cos you've lost weight through training, or cos white and coloured gis often fit differently. So now in the back of your mind you're thinking "Hmmm, I'm disappointed with that last gi, and I want a blue gi that fits well, so maybe I'll keep an eye out and pick one up..."
And it keeps going like that, till 4 years later you have 7 gis :)
One of the useful things about having multiple gis however is that given how long the take to dry, you can always have a fresh, clean and dry gi to train in while the others are in the wash or drying.

The gi addiction definitely takes hold eventually, I have 7 as well now I've acquired a couple of faixa ruas.
My faixa rua single weave has taken over from an ageing koral and the double weave alternates with an atama double weave. The atama wouldn't pass a gi tester though.

I think I must be all gi'd out, as none of the gis on there tempted me!
As for the original question about fav gis... my current favs are my white Fuji singleweave, and my blue Toraki (BJJ cut) singleweave. Both were inexpensive (£65 each) and the quality easily equals the big name BJJ brands.

Pretty much does work like that (Been training a year this month and I have 5 Gi's)
first an old Judo Gi
second a white atama single weave (that got trashed as we were rolling in a boxing gym and wasn't that clean)
Splashed out and got a Koral MKM in blue (Love this Gi though A3 is a bit big for me now I've lost weight and Koral don't shrink)
Pedro had a few Keiko Raca when he came back from brazil and I wanted a white one (to replace my Atama) and got one of them
I have just got a black eagle mundial in white too but an A2 size.
On first inspection the Blackeagle looks nice, will be rolling in it tonight so let you all know how it holds up.

I still wear and use it. I managed to shrik the trousers a little but the jacket just doesn't budge. It's fine just a little looser than I'd prefer.
