View Full Version : Anyone advise me on fat burners?

Over the years I've tried lots of different thermogenic fat burners and Ive settled on 2 that I use every few months; Biotest's Hotrox Extreme and BSN's Atro Phex.
I've not really used any non-thermogenic ones and would like to know if anyone has had a good experience with them.
By non-thermogenic I mean the ones that are non stimulant based.
A friend of mine has just started Lean System 7 and commented that it suppresses his appetite and is safe to take before bed. I've heard Thermolife's Dicana and CNP's Pro Lean are good. Anyone used them?
Can anyone suggest any other really good brands or products?
Thanks in advance.

This might sound a silly question, but what type of people generally use fat burners?
Is it bodybuilder types trying to get ultra cut or lardier folk who just want to get down to a respectable size? If the latter then would fat burners really be any extra effective than just working out and eating well.

All sorts of people use them from competitive bodybuilders, people wanting to trim up, aswell as athletes who need to get or maintain a lean physique and/or drop fat for a weight class.
Nothing can replace a solid clean diet and hard work in and out of the gym, but safe, legal fat burning supplements are just another healthy addition and can improve your results even further. They are not to be used instead of diet and training but to magnify your results. Ive always found them to be very useful. Especially when you've spent a good some of money on them...you tend not to cheat cos you dont want to have wasted your money!!!

I've tried a few different fat burners getting ready for competition, but the most effective I've had is a basic green tea supplement... took 1 with each meal and it was great cheap as chips too.
I guess that counts as a stim based one but then again I never had any sleeping problems and was never jittery, its the polyphenol content that ups your metabolism in GT rather than the caffiene cos it's very low caffiene

Anyone have any previous experience with Maximuscles Thermobol? I've heard that it is a natural agent but it isn't the best thing to take before bed due to the caffeine levels.

It's only for the 30 capsules though and at 3 per day only a 10 day supply. I have seen the 90 capsule monthly supply in Costco, Oldham for 25 quid which is 5 quid cheaper than everywhere else

I've looked into fat furners a few times and the conclusion i've found is that the only real effective ones are the stimulant ones. I'm currently taking grenade fat burner.. it's an ECA stack and works very well but after my workouts, my hands shake REALLY BAD for the next hour but you could probably put that down to needing sugar.
I tried the maximuscle thermabol one and just like every other maximuscle product i've tried.. overpriced and underdelivered. I didn't really feel much on them in comparison to when I have done ECA. The best legal one in this country imo is sida cordifiola or however it's spelt. That works almost as good as ECA but I personally found that it gave me more jitters.

Hmmm!
Nothing beats a proper diet...lol...book plug...book on fat loss coming in January....
But...
Interesting results...kind of vastly in excess of the clinical trials from one of the leading supplement companies...
Their trials showed that 2% of the fat loss in their subjects were as a result of the product.
Note that's not 2% of weight lost in their subjects, but only 2% of the total fat loss...
So if you lose 1kg of fat, only 2% of that was through the product.

Which supplement supplier was that gary? I'm surprised those results ever made it out, if it was my company I'd have lost those results, and probably spilt my drink on the pc's.
I've used hydroxy cut in the past, they weren't bad in terms of results, although they were bad if you took them after 2pm and wanted any sleep that night.
Ephadrine obviously, similar to hydroxy cut but more of a buzz although normally shorter lasting.
Best for me though in terms of no side affects but good results was l carnitine, dose in the morning and a dose 30 mins before training works well. Bit to trim off me these next two weeks so back on it.

I used to take Inferno brand, when I got injured, just to stop myself gaining weight whilst I wasn't training. Worked well, but caused some dodgy insulin spikes, so I stopped taking them

Hi!
The company is a market leader, lol, and compared their results favourably with their competitors.
In other words, yes, the results are really that small from fat burners!
More so with the ones that won't get you a ban too!
I actually find it quite strange that people spend so much money on supplements when they could actually save money and get far quicker results from sorting their base diet out...its about believing advertising I guess...

Ooops!
Thats alot of refined processed and packaged food...may work for you...but a healthy diet could be far better for you...
Fat loss is all about controlling insulin, eating the right foods in the right quantities at the right time, and tricking your body into burning fat as its energy source rather than the glycogen...
Supplements should be considered just that, supplementary to a good diet...

Perfect timing!
Bought Mens Fitness yesterday and they have a whole article on the subject...but concentrate on the PHARMACUETICAL grade drugs, those available only with prescription...
Interestingly they state that in clinical trials 4% of fat lost ABOVE THAT LOST THROUGH DIET AND EXERCISE is down to the drugs...
So if you lose 1kg, then only 40g of that fat is down to the drugs.
And these are far stronger and more effective than the supplement companies' products - kind of puts it into persepective, doesn't it?
Thats why I chuckle but also turn in disgust when I see some of the marketing these companies put out...

far stronger and more effective , just cos there made by big pharama , i seriously doubt that , alot more expensive probably , but doubt more effective .
Problem is as you say people wanna take fat burners without sorting out there diet or exercise regimes and expect it to be a magic pill

Hi detox!
The 'more effective' comes in as their clinical trials state 4% of fat loss through their product, whereas one of the non-pharma leading supplement companies clinical trials is 2% of the fat lost, and they are comparable to other products on the supplement market.

I have used Green tea since feb and its helped me lose nearly 2 stone, adding muscle is an oftern forgotten long term fat burner as your BMR increases dratically if you add a couple of pounds of muscle (probably not a good idea for those looking to cut in the near future).
Chances are you would probably do better by having your diet checked over, you might be eating to many carbs or eating them at the wrong time (this is a generalisation, please dont be offended if im way out) or your eating to much in one go ie 3 main means instead of 6 throughout the day

Hi pal. Wasnt looking for diet advice mate, kinda on top of that, but thanks anyway. Was just looking for a non stimulant based fat burner to switch to rather than use the thermogenic ones.
Cheers.

Ive used a combination of Udos choice complete efa's & PhD Lean Degree with a very lean diet and got down to 8% BF quite easily. Lean Degree gets great reviews on our site. It seems to work well at preventing muscle wastage as well whilst cutting.
Although it was Supplements you was after Green tea does also make a big diffference. The best Ive found is Yerba Mate, ment to be 10 x stronger than standard green tea.

I bought it from Health matters, I dont know if there a chain or not. Based in Maidstone. Should be able to pick it up in the high street in most health shops. Not cheap but good stuff
