hi folks i am considring holding a grappling comp in york, with a simple format everyone (fighters and spectators) pay a fiver entry, absolute rules winner takes all the gate fee (plus either £50 or £100 on top of the gate fee depending upon sponsors) minus expenses (room hire) or there is weight classes and the prize money is shared equally between the winners of each weight class.
you can only win by submission, timelimits of fifteen mins if no one has won by sub then both competitiors are out of the comp.
what are everyones thoughts on this, what you generally be the best weekend to hold it.
this isn't a confirmed comp yet, if enough interest is shown then it will be,
your thoughts please?

it will stop people stalling (laying and praying) sounds good to me!

a bit harsh yeh but it will promote a def win no contraversial decisions, and also hopefully increase the intensity of the comp

thats what i am hoping for people goin for all out grappling skilll, and yes you could argue that part of the grapppling game is using that tactic until someone makes a mistake but thats boring in my personal opinion

I think that sounds excellent mate. The draw=elimination rule is a VERY good idea. Yes it is Harsh but damn will that get people working. Absolutely nothing to lose by going for subs and being aggressive. I like it
I would possibly consider putting the entry fee up a little bit (£10 at least possibly more)
Good luck with this mate.

Really like the sound of this. Rules are spot on....will make good fights.
Prize money shared between weight class winners is more fair or the lighter weights might not bother mate.

i have taken the comments on board thanks guys yeh i'll put enterance fee up a little so that we can give prize money out per weight class, i am tryion to get good aggressive grappling going on. decca i think your right and it was a sticking point for myself, the other alternative is to have a vote on the day as we do live in a democracy lol. hopefully enough people will turn up so the prize money can be given in different weight catagories.
anyone any suggestions on the month or date yet as i dont want it to clash with anything, i am thinking sept time
Another suggestion if you don't mind is doing what Angrrr did and say that the winner will be the person who actively attempts the most submissions so instead of someone lay and praying they'll be attempting submissions just as a fail safe.

I think the idea of crediting attempted submissions is good in theory, but in practice what constitutes an attempted submission? Basing a judgement based on attempts can still lead to controversial decisions, whilst a definate split between sub someone and go through or don't and go home cannot lead to such controversy (Other than bitches whinging they didn't tap *cough* CB Dolloway *cough*)
What's the plan for the finals tho Danny? If the final fight goes the distance, who wins? Maybe there should be no time limit in the finals

the finals will be no time limit. and winner is by submission only, that way there is a clear winner and no arguments, as i say if no one submits your both out, except in the finaL

hi sorry for the long delay but i wanted to do this properly, the hall has been booked for the 20 th sept, event starts at 11 am so get there for 10.30pm. location is york university sports centre (ask for the york mma session if theres any probs).
the rules :- 15 mins to end to fight with a submission otherwise both competitors are out. no points system in place to win you may only do so by submission.(except in final where in goes til there is a submission victory)
weights:- absolute rules in place, however initally to make the fights more equal we will try and match the competitors as close to weight as possible, this will continue until we can nolonger match weight.
illegal submissions- no grabbing of the trachea (throat), small joint manipulation (finger locks), twisting spine lock (such as 'the twister')
enterance fee is £10, this is all collected in a big pot and given to the winner, the only thing we take out is room hire.
hopefully a website and facebook group will be available soon any questions reply on the thread or PM me, to enter PM me with name, club, weight,
hopefully this will be a good event any serious suggestions will be taken into account to make it a good grappling comp. all the best
