If you're willing to spend over £70 on a BJJ gi (I'm guessing that's probably how much you'd be spending), why not spend the equivilent on a good Judo gi? That way you won't have to worry about all the patches etc that you get with BJJ gis.

Why do you do "traditional jits" is the most important question here!!

Depends on wether the individual instructor allows it, my old instructor use to rip patches off other peoples Gi that he didn't like!!!

yeah i know, i signed up for it thinking it was BJJ, however some of the throws are good and my class is more mma orientated than trad jits, we did a circuit of pads then striking techniques, then ground techniques and rolling. plus there isnt many mma classes in my area when i first started that i knew about, i also do muay thai

If I'd spent over £70 on a gi and someone tried ripping the patches off it I think I'd be trying to rip him a new arse hole (unless he was super, super hard and did that pressure pint dim sum thing!!)

Why not get a plain bjj gi. There are plenty of bjj gis that arn't filled with patches.

I'm not mate. There are a few black belts under Budgie who I roll with occationally. They basically cross face and neck crank the fuck out of me and then I arm bar or choke them. Works out ok!!!
