I've always ate brown rice as I thought it was "better for you." But I was just comparing the nutritional info of the 2 and found that brown rice had 71g of carbs per 100g serving. Now that is a shit load of carbs compared to white rice which has 25g of carbs per 100g serving. So which do you guys prefer and y ?

Brown rice is low gi, white rice is high meaning it elevates blood sugar levels quickly whereas brown rice will release energy slowly for a longer duration.

The only time to have high gi foods really is when your body needs to replace glycogen quickly ( after training ).

Avoid all white really ie bread, rice, pasta and stick with the brown stuff.

Check your numbers again and make sure both values are for dry rice. Pretty much all rices contain 75-85 g carbohydrate per 100 g when the rice is dry.

try and eat egg fried rice wherever possible

egg = extra protein and the peas give you one of your five vegetables a day. Should be the cornerstone of any professional athlete's diet

The gi thing is rubbish it is only relavent if your only eating the rice and nothing else which is unlikely if you have even the smallest idea what your doing.
You should be eating a meal thats got pro, carbs, fat, fibre in it and its the amount of pro/fat/fibre which will determin the rate of that the carbs are digested rather then the extra fibre in the brown rice.

its more of a art then a science really. you should be trying to get the macro ratio right so your getting a slow release of energy betwean meals and by the time the next meal rolls around you should be felling hungry and ready to eat not still bloated from your last meal as if this is the case and you try and eat another meal your body will just poop out half your food.
