So yeah a few weeks back I had never tasted humous or hummus or whatever it is. Tried it and fell in love !!
I have it every night now as I work next door to nandos. Question is what is their secret ingredient to make it taste so delicious ? I bought some from the supermarket and it tasted like shit. I was told its just more garlic in the nandos variety but it cant just be that surely.
Also I'm now thinking the nandos stuff isnt that healthy anything that nice can't be .... surely ???

Its babies mate...
On a serious note, what the hell is the main ingrediant of hummus? Can you give the girl behind the counter the old 'wink, wink' and get her to whack some in a tub for you?

Its Chick peas and garlic i think.
Nandos put their peri peri sauce in it so its extra nice.
My girlfriend is half Greek so sterotypically she loves it lol. I'm not too keen

Get the 'Extra Special' Houmous from Asda, or 'Tesco's finest' - worth a few extra pence.
Yeah, houmous is just chick peas, garlic, and lemon juice I believe - unless you get any of the fancy pesto or sundried tomato type flavours...

How does it taste better i.e. is it creamier?
Whack some dried chillis in there or some peri peri sauce

Hummus never tastes better. Nasty stuff, I put it in the same league as celrey and liver. And courgettes. And mushrooms.

Humous is chick peas and avocardo. Nandos put their hot sauce in it, hence its peri peri humous.
It is the best new food Ive tried in years, awesome with the soft pitta bread. Depends how much butter may be added as a thickener.

Yes. I particularly like the small bottle it comes in.
Problem is it is quite filling as a starter I think, unlike the olives which serve as a suitable 'appetiser'. Eating the humous and all the bread by yourself can take up valuable chicken space.
true... it's ideal as a sort of sharing starter/nibble while you're waiting to get your real eat on. and by real eat on i mean eating shit loads of chicken.
sunday's nandos for me was houmus (shared), whole chicken (half paid for, half courtesy of my lovely little stamp book), corn, spicy rice, garlic bread and chips (shared). spot on, although the meat sweats/fullness combo meant i wasn't at my most mobile for a good couple of hours.

I like to take a piece of pitta, pull a decent bit of chicken from your quarter / half breast. wrap it in your pitta, scoop a huge lump of humous onto the end and then dip into garlic peri-peri. Take huge bite.
The closest I have ever been to heaven.

there is one down the bay in Cardiff, a jock I work with told me the hot sauce on the chicken burgers wasn't very hot! I stupidly believed him. I had sweat coming out of my ears and my specs steamed up!!
Jock almost wet himself (knob head)

Just found out there is Nandos opening in Aberdeen soon. In the interest of being open to new types of food I'll give the houmus a try.
Think I'll avoid the hot sauce on the chicken burger though....

the ingredient in humous that no one has mentioned is actuallu tahini which is a paste made from pulped sesame seeds. Humous is basically chick peas, tahini, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. It is extremely calorie dense so not good if you are watching weight unless you have extreme will power and eat a tiny portion (which I find incredibly hard).

The houmos is ok .... I didn't think it was that great. I would rather have the olives to start with
