$5k & $5k I'm guessing.

Semtex got completely screwed over, but I'd imagine he got a lot from sponsorship, i mean, prime-time tv on a saturday night on national television in the co-main event.

Semtex got completely screwed over

How? He/his management agreed to the pay. He was obviously happy to accept the money for that fight.

Kimbo got $500,000 and is miles away from the top 10 HW's in the world, Semtex got $12,000 and is up there with the top 10 WW's in the world,

I love the way you pick on me for saying he got screwed over when 2 other people said the same, says something doesn't it.

yes but kimbo sells tickets in the USA and Daley doesn't. nice to see that Seth got a nice pay packet.

some of the purses are a complete joke and i believe kimbo's half a million is the most fucked up shit EVER.

much better fighters out there getting paid peanuts.

Brock Lesnar sells PPV's, he was 1-1 and got paid $250,000 for fighting Heath Herring,

Is that right/fair?

gorillaacademy

yes that's fair. It's called supply and demand. Fighters don't have to accept the purse they are offered. If u were a promoter would you offer the other fighters more money just to be fair?? Of course not

I personally don't think it's right or fair, I think it's necessary as that's the way the world works, wish it wasn't that way but it is.

Agree to disagree? :)

So you are in favour of a socialist state then?

I don't understand why people are freaking out about Kimbo's salary. Fighter's salaries are considered an investment by promoters (i.e. how much revenue they can generate for the promotion in ticket sales, ad/sponsorship revenue, PPV sales where appropriate, etc) not an indication of how skilled a fighter is.

I'm not getting pulled into a political argument, I'm just saying i don't think it's fair that Kimbo gets paid $500,000 whereas Semtex only got $12,000.......I accept that that's the way it is, I don't however think it's fair.

whoever thinks a less skilled fighter should be payed more than the better fighter has to be fuckin jokin. kimbo shouldnt even be topping a show in the first place never mind making half a million for it when there are much better fighters out there

i'd deduct pay for losing instead of a win bonus.

I agree but only to those on high pay rolls, I know the money they earn is seen as an investment by the promotors but getting paid $500,000 as opposed to the oppositions $50,000, you are surely expected to win, so if not I think some of their pay should go to the opposition.

erm, it's a business? Kimbo is an 'internet phenomenon' who brings fans to the show?

In an ideal would the most skilled fighters would earn the biggest wages but this isn't an ideal world

Although Jim, 500k is excessive and has ultimately backfired on them imo

I was at the show, some good matched fights , but the kimbo fight was going to be like a circus act, who ever he was going to fight against , all real MMA fans know that.
Seth took his chance won the fight & will give kimbo a rematch & I hope seth gets the right amount of $$$$$ for it!

erm... does anyone have any doubts as to why they are $57million in the red?

I don't even know who you are. Why would I pick on you? Yours was the first comment I read (from bottom up). What does it "say"? lol, do you have paranoia much? Have I met you or something??

Daley is surely worth more, yeah, but that's not what you said originally. He didn't get screwed over because I assume he agreed to that pay and was happy with the contract he signed, unless you know otherwise?

They can't really afford to pay Kimbo $.5m but he is the one bringing in PPV numbers (apparently). Until EXC makes money, I don't think they'll be paying many people big money. I'm still waiting for them to fold.

If you don't understand those payroll figures, I recommend reading the undercover economist (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Undercover-Economist-Tim-Harford/dp/0349119856/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223369759&sr=8-1)

erm... does anyone have any doubts as to why they are $57million in the red?

Not being picky but isn't it closer to $60million, lol?

Anyway, them overpaying fighters is only a tiny part of that particular problem. What about the $8million or so they dropped on Cage Rage? Or the $26million on their website? For starters you can knock $580,000 off the show's overall payroll figure because Affliction paid Arlovski and Nelson. And of all EliteXC's fighters, the only one I can think of that is actually overpaid is Antonio Silva because him getting a guarantee of $100,000 is just bizarre.

As pathetic as Kimbo's performance was, he easily deserved his $500,000 because the whole point of this show was to draw a rating on CBS. EliteXC have now been on CBS three times. The first and third shows did about the same rating. The second, without Kimbo and headlined by Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith (two much better fighters) dropped a whopping 50%. CBS/Showtime involvement and backing is the ONLY thing keeping EliteXC alive.

What Kimbo didn't deserve though, was the "undisclosed sum" he blackmailed out of the promotion by arriving at the arena and demanding more money to fight Seth. That's money above and beyond his existing $500,000 guarantee.

As for the rumours that Seth was paid specifically to stand with Kimbo, they're true. Kenny was getting paid to do the same thing.

Bizarre coincidence..... I'm reading that right now!

Or the $26million on their website?

Is that for real? How is it possible to spend that much on a website?!

Its true. And I've NO idea how they managed to do it.
