We've been taught not to shoot for singles, we have to always, always go for doubles then if we lose the rear leg we keep driving and change up. Dave throws things at us if we shoot straight for a single from stand up!!

Can go for a single from cage control or clinch, but not from unattached stand up. The reasoning is, that if the guy sprawls well from a double you still have a chance for the single. If he stuffs your single, theres nowhere to go and you're in danger of all sorts.

Just said mate, cause if he stuffs it you're in a bad position. We concentrate on making our doubles as strong as poss and can go for singles if the guy sprawls well. Give him more than one thing to think about.

Basically if you lose the double you still have a strong option. Not so if you lose the single. Not saying you cant recover from missing a single, its just how we are taught and I think its a very valid point.

no u can go for singles in unattached sits.. but its better if your fighting a southpaw.. i wunt recommend doing a single on an orthadox but u can.. mainly due to the doubles easier to do.. if u lose the rear leg on a double your in danger of sumwer u dont wana be mate.. ill show u sum stuff mate wen ur down now

Sounds like some slick shit right there!! I 'Think' i can comprehend how that could be done..

Stapes..I read ur post about single legs and only shooting doubles but imho, if something is drilled often enough in the 'right training environment' then anything is possible..again..only my opinion dude.:D

Robs, I cant imagine how the knee bar etc could be done!!!

Interesting opinions on the single leg, i think it depends on the type of fighter your fighting whether they circle alot, are aggressive, counter punch etc...

We are gonna carry on with counters/defence to singles next week. Then gonna go over attacks from a single. I have reasons for how I teach and what I say to the students.

omoplata against single leg is quite a nice counter. Even I have managed to get it a couple of times and I am rather ponderous.

From a non-striking point of view I have always preferred singles to doubles but then my wrestling kinda sucks

In pure wrestling, olympic. THe single is most scored from pee wee wrestling to the olympic games.

In mma
With striking obviously the angles of the strances, submission counters, having a cage etc changes things up.
I wonder what the most scored takedowns in mma are

the way i see it
lefty vs righty = single or angled double
same vs same = double

but than again... Mark kerr shot from a southpaw stance and got loads of people down.

Untill we start to see equel level fighters at everything. It will be easier to see whats most high %

but i am not a black belt.

no ?its pretty easy....ok... hes got a single leg.. he puts it between his legs.. "to trap it".. (so lets say its the right leg) u square up so both facing forward with right leg still trapped.. u post with u right hand on his back ur left knee jumps behind is left knee.. and u knee bar the left knee.. make sense pretty standard really!

Yes indeed. Matt's always travelled around a bit, we both have. Gavin is an excellent grappling quote and there are some great fighters at Predators, which gives Matt some great grappling sparring. In fact Kam has one of the best top games I have ever rolled with!

Unfortunately Matt has been told to stop training at SBG Stockport by Karl (we not directly, Karl asked Ian to tell Matt), as Karl feels some of his fighters may end up fighting Matt. Shame, cause Matt's really enjoyed training with those guys
