View Full Version : I'm really struggling

Hey

In the last 6months I've been doing more training than ever, probably about 8 hours a week in total (Grappling mainly, Thai and Boxing) and I'm loving it but my body is really feeling the strain, my back, shoulders and chest are really hurting especially after classes and its just making me miserable.

I know the anwser is probably rest but I don't want to go backwards and lose what little game I have.

Just wondered is there any advice people can give me, I was considering some sports massage?

Hi!

There's alot of things you can do.

1. Eat proper nutrition for your body.
2. Get the right sleep.
3. Stagger your training, have a hard day followed by an easy day.
4. Work more on technique, relax more during training, don't try and drive your car with your foot on the brake as well as the accelerator - you'll make alot of noise and go no-where...
5. Periodise your training, focus on one area at a time.
6. Have at least one 24hr period total rest each week to let your smooth and cardiac muscles recover.
7. Have regular chiropractic to ensure that your body is aligned properly.
8. Use sports massage, but know this can be like a workout in itself and will often induce DOMS.
9. Listen to your body - if you are dead on your feet, do something very, very light or nothing at all.

Just some ideas!

Lolol :D

I agree sports massage is definitely worth it! I try and get one once a month (the only happy ending I get is relief from my back pain!). Its about £30 (I get mates rates though) and the guy I use employs pressure point massage.
Training about the same myself a week now and loving it, but feeling the strain on my body.

After this week's training I am thinking once every few weeks. Had thought about once a month but my hips feel rotten since I started muay thai.

My shitness as well as the constant illness / injuries have made me want to give up completely. I'm battling with the idea of stopping doing everything mma related.

I'm even finding it hard to get excited watching ufc's etc. :(

Everyone goes through this I'm sure I will get that passion back soon. That is if I dont get injured by Mark and his magic toenails of death as soon as I feel ready to train again LOL

What Smiler said...

Foam rollers and contrast showers are also excellent (especially if you're not rich enough to afford sports massage several times a week!)
