ok seriarse arnser
if for real can't punch faggot in face
is best not let him for play this guarde
is best for you flatten faggot out an make him play
usual half guarde
if you gonna let him sit then the trouble all you fault
best not let underhook but pummel for own underhook and flatten
out then pass normal half guarde

other way is for neal threw his stupid butterfly half guard
while push him nea with hand but be caryful he not arm drag same time for
take your back.if you let this happen you deserve get choke.

Its safe to say my butterfly and open guard is pretty solid.

With tricks from Levo, Drysdale and Tanswell. :)

But since then me and Levo have came up with a whole game from half butterfly in which 99/100 i gain a advantage of some kind

I usually kick out both my feet and drop my ass down onto my opponent's feet before scooting out back to standing up; it's a bit of an odd way out, and it's not technically a guard pass; but if you pull it off quick enough and get your arms free you can hurt a mo fo's ankles

Dutchman do u want a few things on how to pass? or some things on how to attack from single butterfly?

Duchman

On passing please. Thank you :)

Predator

O passing, I havent got a sick game from passing since i dont really have too many problems.

But i know what people do to me when im playing it

The main thing they do is control my ankle and back out to open guard. Once there they can drive their knee between to combat base and work all their usual passes. I feel that one has the most sucess rate or getting past my hook.

Other things they do is underhooking my legs, Contorling then jumping over, Leg binding passes that kind of stuff.

i also get front headlocked from their. As in they snap my head down and take the gullitine grip. Then it doesnt matter if i use my hook because if they they are good they can take the grip from underneath (if that makes sense)

The Natural

Would u care to elaborate on the bottom game in half butterfly gwuard?

...pretty please:D

Predator
11-11-2008, 01:29 PM
Ok.

With my single butterfly i use it to stop people passing guard and to off balance them and attack.

My no1 attack from there is a armdrag, So i go for it pull it across then scoot my ass around to i can attack their back.

If they defend that i come to double underhooks throw in my other hook and rock them back and attempt to sweep.

If they lift both feet up to defend the sweep i window wipe with one arm to create space then spin them around to get their back.

If they put their hands on the floor then i will attack a submission on either arm, or put my feet on their hips OR hit the arm drag again.

The good thing about this little game is that if you always try to off balance them they have to put their hand somewhere to base (or they'll get swept) and thats when you hit the arm drag.

Sorry if its hard 2 understand im not very good at putting thoughts onto paper

From half-butterfly I like transitioning to x-guard or going for a triangle. There are also a few sweeps but I don't know any names for them and it's too hard to explain them in words.

I prefer using it with an overhook though. If I had an underhook I'd take normal half-guard or lockdown.

yeah i like X guard too. Aswell as overhook with head position.

Unfortunately because of the darce (sp) choke and a few other subs i no longer feel confident with my half guard and lockdown :(

If I have the underhook I always look for biceps control on the far-arm, that stops the d'arce. It helps that I have really long arms I guess, I can usually easily stay on my side while reaching for biceps control.

Other than that, keep your head mega tight to their belly and you should be ok.

Sorry if any of this seems patronising, I have no idea what level you're at!

Lol

Dont be stupid, im always open to any new tips or training ideas.

I hate closed minds when it comes to sport, Pisses me off.

I do try the bicep control and i can defend it hit and miss but some guys that i train with are sooo good at hand fighting from there they explode it through the gap. I try ball my neck, get low all that but like i said its hit and miss.

Thanks for the advise regardless :)

muahahaha

regards the brabo and bicep control etc. if someone attempts to bicep control i'll just put my free shin on their arm to strip it.

your best bet to defend the brabo is to "whip up" as eddie bravo calls it and sweep as soon as possible. this keeps your neck super low and makes it hard to fight the arm in (unless you have REALLY long arms)

I had the exact same problem training at Subfighter, Darce Chokes are bread and butter there. After my first session Rick Estrada pulled me aside and spent a good hour with me on Darce Defence. Then we rolled and he showed me all his "unconventional" setups for the choke that counter the counters :D

david5; How do you get your free shin in position to remove the biceps control? Seems to me you're destroying your own base by doing that.

depends if i'm in lockdown or not. if i am i free it and hide my foot then sit back on the leg that's in half guard. not had any problems with base (might be because i'm 6'4 and dont ave to move my leg much)

Guy on bottom gets an underhook... you're on top so you whizzer, then just drive that arm through under their head. That's (very basically) it.

So you end up in combat base with them having half guard on the leg you are kneeling on?

Half butterfly passes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pVpA6ScEfY and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSPSayvAphA

Brabo/D'arce counter (the second technique following one of my favourite deep half guard sweeps) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYsu3pj7Q1o I use a similar arm trap if I am playing half butterfly guard, using my left leg as the butterfly hook, bridging with my right leg and rolling them over me to my left. I've not found that people knealing on my arm stops my from being able to hit this sweep.
