I need to get some new MMA gloves. Being a girl I don't have big hands so which brand of gloves would be best to fit smaller hands or is it much of a muchness and the smaller ones of any brand will be just fine.

I'd also like some purple ones to match my warrior shorts if possible but not essential. Lou will be pleased to see I don't want pink ones!:D

Oh really? Damm..must have missed that bit in my first lesson. Well I was painting my fingernails at the time so that may be why......

Thanks for the tip. I'll go and have a word with my instructor, ask for a refund on all my lessons for the last two years and send my shorts back.

:p

Your instructor should really of told you that girls shouldn't fight. I think it's OK to do boxercise or something like that. But not fighting

I'm going to have to have serious words with him at training tonight. He is a Pro-fighter and really should have known better. Have you pm Rosi to tell her this revelation?

Nope, Rosi is well aware of my views. She is an exception to the norm though, as she is very good. However, in general there are less female fighters, which means the standard has to be lowered for fighters. So what is generally on offer is a poor standard of MMA. Not worth paying for.

However, I would pay money to see girls doing aerobics or something.

So what you are saying is with all my newly found time because I shouldn't be traning MMA 3 times a week, I could put together work out videos of girls in MMA sparring gear doing aerobics and sell it to the hard core top notch men of the sport. Excellent plan!! So to make sure all my girls are kitted out correctly...I come back to my original post. What gloves are best for smaller hands???:D

I don't think they need the gloves. The less clothing the better, tbh.

Wow, that's really helpful. So glad you regularly troll the female MMA forum to help out poor damsels like me or else seriously I wouldn't have a clue!!

I would agree with everything said by Mr B and Mr C :-)

p.s. small sized Fairtex MMA sparring gloves, the ones with large wrap around wrist strap seemed to suit Diane B well.

Yay good for you :D

I am fancying either the Fairtex or Sandee ones myself. I have Sandee boxing gloves which seemed a better fit than any others I tried on.

Let me know if you need anyone for your vid :D

Fairtex seems to be the way to go. When my video is underway I will book a casting and I'm sure the aformentioned Mr B and Mr C will be happy to participate!

Sorry no ones being particularly helpful, Little Ms Kitten.
Here's a link to a revue of [LINK EDITED] for women from a Dutch site.
Hope this makes you feel more at home.

I'm not sexist. It is a fact that women (in general) are not as good as men (in general) at fighting, there are exceptions. The opposite applies to house cleaning (again exceptions apply).

Why would I pay to what MMA done poorly, just because it is done under the guise of womens MMA. At least with poor male MMA there is a chance of a KO!

It’s a case of taking each individual fight in its own context. I'm not suggesting that female only MMA pro events are even close to being on the cards because you are entirely right, the catchment pool of women wanting to compete in MMA is tiny. Therefore it follows the best of the best females may well not be on a par with the male competitors (exceptions apply as you have already said). In that respect it is the same as female boxing. However, as more women join the sport the opportunity for the general standard to increase is there. The best male competitors when MMA first became popular back in the early 1990's were nowhere near the standard we see in the UFC now. That didn't happen because of the XY chromosome! It happened because more people started training and competing and this gives us the standard of fighter we see now. More support and less knuckle dragging especially on the female forums is probably the way to go.

So kind of you to say so Mr Chatfield :p

I have to respectfully disagree that I'm as rare as you suggest, though. I've just got back in from doing a Muay Thai class at our gym with three other bloody good female fighters on the mat. That's not including one other pro fighter and several very competent BJJ players who also train regularly, all of whom can give me a hard time on any given day.

As the sport grows, so does the number of women training and competing, and the increase in the number and standard of female fighters worldwide over the last few years has been dramatic.

Now <puts mod hat on> perhaps we can get back to the subject of gloves?

Non of what you say really offers a couner arguement to my opinion (neither does Kitty cats). I'm happy to give credit where credit is due and on that basis, there is maybe 5-10 female fighters that I have actually been impressed with, maybe 2-3 I would pay to watch. With the talent pool so compratively small to the male version of the sport, the other challenge is for the talented female fighters to find consistant quality match ups.... which again impacts on the sport.

Great fighters need great opponents. Without them they will never rise to their true potential.

To get back to the topic (just to keep the grumpy mods happy :D). I would recommend Twins, Fairtex, etc as good MMA sparring gloves and from the two, I think Fairtex have the edge. The only ones I would steer clear of, is Rogue.... cheap crap.

Indeed... and I'm sure we'll keep doing our best to produce good female fighters and find them matches so that one day female MMA might reach a level that Lord Chatfield can appreciate :D

My hands are tiny! I have the Fairtex MMA sparring gloves & the Shotai Kai MMA fight gloves. I'd recommend both.

Please, don't consider it a level I can appreciate. Just consider it a level that is acceptable as a good representation of the sport
