View Full Version : Training in Middlesbrough
Hi, first post on here so hello all.
I've been training MMA in Scotland (DNFT) where I am Mon - Thurs, but travel back to the North East for the weekends, and so am looking for somewhere to train from the Thurs night til the Sunday.
John Nicholson (DNFT) reccomended Abdul Mohamed, does anyone know if he is coaching at the min? Assuming he hasnt gone to the US? If so any contact details? I've googled it, tried Yell and searched these forums but no joy. Having searched I've seen Cliff Pollard mentioned, but again no contact details. Any help would be great cheers.

Abdul has his own gym in the Boro mate, but from what I can gather its mainly wrestling.
There is Akurai which is Stockton mate and they offer everything. They train out of Teeside Muai Thai
Cheers
Cheers Mikey, Cliff has been in touch and John has put me in touch with Jamie Taylor (I'm assuming thats Akurai), so sorted now.
Thanks

Hi all,
i have been thinking of going down to the one at ormesby, i have been in contact with Cliff and he said to go down, i am new to it all and was wondering if it is the sort of place for a beginner to go and start from scratch, i have done a couple of years of boxing in my late teens which might help?
cheers

Theres alot of good gyms in Boro I would recomend only people with prior training go to Abduls, hes a great trainer but trains hard I enjoy going at weekends. I also enjoyed training at Cliff I think its a great place for a beginner to start especially for learning grappling. And lastly Team Akurai is fun to train with no egos and good for all comers with classes set up for beginners right through to pro level with 6 pro fighters regulary training and coaching there.

Jamie Taylor

Richs wrestling and jits is awesome, he should fight but wont.
He fought Les Ojugbana who is very strong and pounded Rich from inside his guard. He wasn't really prepared for that and got beat but I'm sure he knows the score nowadays and could do very well if he chose to. He is too busy with uni stuff though, I would do the same to be fair.

It would be awesome if Abduls gym and or gym combined. The boro and surrounding areas is getting a great place to train I cant wait for a good 7 seven days of training starting 2morow.
I was rolling with Josh last month and he went for my arm and I thought he had nothing and then my arm almost snapped before I could tap hes got some very good subs of his back and is gonna be a great fighter if he continues to progress. It was painful watching him fight at battlegrounds when he landed leg kick after leg kick I felt sorry for his oppenant.

everyone is great mate. we have beginners right through to pros, both the trainers (nathen boyce and jamie taylor who are on this forum) are both excerlent coaches covering everything you will need.
There are plenty of lads off here that train there and im sure they will all tell you what a great atmosphe it is.
they are based out of teeside thai which has a website if you google it.
Akurai also has a face book group (search for mma stockton)
come down and have a watch or a bit of a try, there is no pressure to do anything your not comtable with
