Eddie bravo uses gi pants, tubigrip and anklets to maximize grip for his rubber guard. Bit controversial IMO considering rubber guard is meant for mma and no gi, where u are rarely allowed to wear gi pants.
I say wear shorts if u compete instead of developing a false sense of security. If a certain grip doesn't work when sweaty it needs to be improved. Something u might not realize if the tech seems fine in pants

Suppose it depends on the reasons ppl are recommending the pants & your reasons for thinking about it.
Our gym is absolutely freezing at the moment. Once you're warmed up you don't really notice the cold, but stop & I feel it. So last time we trained I wore my gi (we train no gi) to keep warm, everyone thought it was hilarious, but I trained better because I stayed warm.

I actually were Aoki pants underneath my shorts (not as colourful though!!!). i used to were gi pants to stop skin infections on my legs but moved on to the leggins. You can get them on the internet or go to a running shop and get a pair of runners leggins. They are fine to roll in and keep your legs warm in the winter!!!
