I noticed this from an article:

About George St Pierre and his match this weekend.

"And control is key in this bout. After the 'personal issues' that dogged him during his UFC 69 loss to Matt Serra, he sought help from a sport psychologist, a rare move for an MMA fighter, and ever since then has seemed mentally untouchable".

From this link: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/ufc/article2161121.ece

I know the Sun is not the best source but I was just wondering if there is any truth behind this....I mean the "a rare move for an MMA fighter" part because I thought it was quite common within MMA and many other sports. I read a link recently that said Jim Wallhead saw a sports psychologist and I thought it was fairly standard stuff especially among the big name fighters. It seems to have worked quite well!

i put on a seminar a bit ago with vinny shoreman, an NLP who works closely with the thai fighters including rich cadden and liam harrison, both of which are very formidable thai fighter's.
the mental game in my opinion is a massively overlooked part of mma and many other combat sports.
many top football clubs/NFL/many other long term established 'mainstream' sports hire sports psychologists and it must have an effect for them to be getting hired

I know that Glenn Catley and Steve Collins used sports pyschology during their boxing careers. Can anyone recommend any books (perhaps specifically for mma/boxing)?
