Thanks for the advice , we initialy thought the same thing re copy rights etc but after carefully checking and consulting with a legal team we were advised that the use of the name (ultimate fitness centre) could not be copy writen, and has been used all over the world to describe gyms. As we are not using the brand (ufc) it seems this is ok, if anyone knows otherwise we would appreciate your comments and stand to be corrected .
our goal is to open up to everyone rather then just appeal to mma fighters and bring a better understanding of our sport to the public.
Our intention is also to encourage anyone and everyone to use the facilitys when we open.
Also it would be great if people could comment on what would attract them into a gym such as the one we are opening (apart from fit birds and sexual services lol) and what else we could offer which would enhance fighters etc.
Thanks .

if you want to gain some popularity and potential clients who arent necessarily already interested in mma, hosting some open days where locals can come in and watch/join in some training, see how things go. see what a good atmosphere/informative it can be.
in my experience plenty of people are interested in learning MMA but feel intimidated. it can be quite an intimidating thing going to a gym for the first time with no skills, knowledge or experience knowing there'll be blokes in there who are monsters!!
maybe showing people new to the sport it can be a social, friendly, fun thing to get involved with, providing fitness and knowledge in a good, organised but friendly atmosphere, along with of course a professional outlook and top class trainers/fighters who are looking to pave a way in the sport.
the gym sounds great, maximising the different rooms would be ideal, allowing different groups of differing skill levels/demands to train at the same time.
north london is my manor so its great to hear of a good gym starting up, i know alot of people that way who'd be intereted in getting involved. make sure the marketing and promotions kick off well and the pricing isn't too high.
all the best.
good luck, ill be sure to pop in when back in blighty end of the year.

That'll be 3 BJJ blackbelts teaching in the same area then - Arlens up on the N Circular in Edmonton (Kimura Gym), Mamazinho in Stoke Newington, and now Eddie teaching in Tottenham when the gym opens. Will he be teaching with the gi, or no-gi grappling for MMA?
Good luck with the new place

Am i right in saying this is the same eddie kone who started with titan, then blood line, then KO mma and is also a personal friend of renzo gracie.......apparently also wondering how much the shipping costs on a black belt from brazil off ebay was.
Or...............
if you want you could always train at Team Titan (with real mma fighters and not made up black belts) with Brad Pickett,Henrique Santana(real black belt),Jason Young,Ashley Grimshaw,Michael Pastou,Luke Smith and not forgetting head Trainer Mickey Papas.
thats true actually......the location is so close to team titan.....
why would you open a gym up there out of interest?

Hey guys thanks for the positive comments some of them where very useful, we are still putting our schedule and pricing together and I am sure it will be very competitive and fairly priced for everyone.
London pride thanks for the comments it reinforced a lot of what we were thinking, hope too see you in the gym when you get back.
Detox guru we are interested in all sports products so please let us know what you have.
King Roah Thanks for your comments but I think you have some details confused so let me help you out.
Yes it is the same Eddie kone who help start Team Titan along with Mickey Papas, it is also the same Eddie Kone who Founded and is still the head coach for Blood Line Fight team who by the way will also be training and fighting out of the new gym, and yes Eddie is and Will Still have classes running at the KO gym in Clapton so no real changes.
The Renzo Gracie thing confuses me as if I am not mistaken it was Royler Gracie who promoted him to black belt, so I am more then sure his black belt status is far from fake and I am sure a lot of the bjj guys in the uk can also vouch for that, and maybe as Simon hayes posts on hear a lot he may be able to shed further light on it.
I am also sure if you check your history he is friends with a lot of the Gracie family.
If I am also not mistaken brad picket and Enrique Santana used to train with Eddie Kone too before he split from Team Titan?
Enrique also used to train at Carlson Gracie, and then moved to Leo negao, London fight factory, then team titan now he is a black belt under Gracie barra? so what was the point you were trying to make.
As for why are we opening a gym in Tottenham the space became available so we took it, it is far enough away from Team Titan from what I know both Team Titan and Kimura gym are on the same industrial estate. Plus we live in that area and I am sure people have a choice of where they prefer to train I doubt we will effect anyone, we are just adding to the mma/bjj community .
Thanks.

Has a nice ring to the name :)
Just for the kodak moment when i tell people where i train and they abbreviated to 'you train at the UFC then'.. heheheeee.
I'l be sure to get my arse to classes. Been slacking for a while, lol
A new door which is slightly closer as well might I add. :D
All these gyms in London means people have choices within reasonable traveling distances to learn.
Yes Titan has class fighters :) I always see them as kindly during comps.
I got my Blue belt at £2.99 from Tao sports , its cheap & chearful so It saves worrying about any shipping costs. They have black belts in that style aswell. The money you save on shipping can be used for some golden embroidary along your black belt :)

now way, UFC... so sued
I found out something interesting the other day, the letters UFC are a protected trademark in the UK but not by Zuffa. They belong to a telephone company who has had the protection for years, way before the UFC existed. In the UK Zuffa have protected UFC with the phrase The Ultimate Fighting championship written underneath.

With the Ultimate Fighting Championship soon to launch their own chain of gyms http://ufcgyms.com/ internationally it would probably be a good idea for UK gyms to take the appropriate steps to protect their own brands imo.
The UFC do a fantastic job of building, maintaining and protecting their brand and if they attack the Gym product in the same way they have the Championship product then, unless we as gym owners have not protected ourselves properly, we might need to change some things.
I think that if you have a good original product/idea and you protect that then all is cool (ethically and lawfully).

MarkCossey,
some very valid points, i think we should take the correct measures to protect ouselves and our gyms as we could fall victim to the copy right / branding problems.
What steps have people taken if any ?.
illuminati23 :In modern times this name is used to refer to a purported conspiratorial organization which acts as a shadowy power behind the throne.... gues it sums you up lol.
i am suprised the way people act out of jelousy and fear i think that more full time mma / Bjj gyms should open and should be accessable in every area, after all it is a competitive market and competition is healthy.

I have reffered people to Titans Gym because it was closer and best suitable for the individuals. I dont play the game of my gyms better than yours, lol
This is where I train and my second home so to speak :)
If anybody has any dispute with my gym, we can set up a fight to resolve the matter and donate proceeds to Big Issue or any agreed charity.
I fight at -70 now but can fight at any wieght the law allows me to :D

'Illuminati' translates as enlightened, something that you clearly are not and are not ready to become either...
Jealousy is not the motivator here. This has nothing to do with gym envy or fear of a business competitor. You should not seek to console yourself with those ideas to avoid the truth.
Naruto, your loyality is admirable but very misplaced.

iluminati23 if Jealousy is not the motivator here, and it has nothing to do with the gym envy or fear of a business competitor, why is it causing you so much pain you feel you have to post on here ? if he has wronged you why not speak to him directly he is not hard to contact, i will gladly pass his details to you. most people who know him say he is a good guy and all speak of him with good things to say.
Hi widge, i know he fought when he lived abroad but i can not clarify the record, i also know after an injury he stopped competing all together including BJJ think his last comp was in 2003.
That being said he has produced some good fighters from the Bloodline camp.
Sean Folan 4.0
Raphel Dzubanda 3.0
Costa Doru 3.2.1
Doktor 3.2.1 survival HW champ
Brad Wheeler 2.0
Alex Korsovich 3.0
Serge ussanov 3.2.1
And he has an gym of fighters in Romania .
Think Paul Semtex daley, Sami Berik and others have also trainned with him in the past so i am more then sure he has the working knowledge.

Cool, I need improving in my floorwork anyway and it'l be a good reason to do so :)
We can make something real good of it. We could have it on a show during the interval and set it as a 3 5min grappling comp.
A sum of say £500 can be awarded by the promotor to Big issue.
Im thinking june'ish , it can be promoted and put on the table for any promotor who may be interested.
What do you think? Like transmuting Karma ,we mould the outcome into something real good and a good learning experience for us both :D

Wow a bit defensive, was only asking if he was thinking of competing. Yes I train and have competed but not for a long time. Will be at Gracie invitational this year if things go to plan. Thanks for asking that's nice of you.
"as for competing who knows ?" Eddie knows surely and since you spoke to him about the forum you might as well of asked him.

Just BJJ, but been plagued with injuries and lack of money. Would like to do an MMA fight whilst i am still young enough, but need motivation. ha ha. I suppose that is why I wanted to know whether Eddie is going to compete, would love to have a match with him either BJJ or MMA, i have trained with him so I know I would have to train my arse off just to be able have a fraction of a chance, but I think we are similar weights.

Your right about age and injuries I know that first hand. Ha ha. If Eddie does want to compete then I suppose I would make a good warm up match. Lol. Obviously I would still train to win though, which is the point to me.
Wish you success and the best to all your fighters, staff and people who train. Thanks for the good wish's for the invitational. I wish you all well.
