View Full Version : Protein-rich snacks
I'm looking for some snack ideas, high in protein but low calories, to ensure I maintain my protein intake whilst losing some excess fat. I don't want to drop my protein intake and lose the muscular gains I have worked hard to make.
I always include a source of protein with each meal but would like something to eat inbetween, not just fruit and salads.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Nuts are always a good bet, ora bit of peanut butter on a bagel or something.
To be honest I find protein shakes are the most hassle free way of boosting your protien intake between meals, but there are always other options if thats not your style.

Something like Biltong loads of websites out there that do it. High protein, low fat.

Protein bars are normaly a bit crap on the nutrition stats but reflex Pitstop bars are actually pretty good: http://www.supplement-select.co.uk/protein_bars/default.htm
Nuts are good, but it is easy to eat a whole bag and then realise it was 700 cals in a "snack".
Protein shakes are good, but not very filling.
You can make a kinda protein blancmange with sugar free jelly and protein powder which works ok.
Cottage cheese is an option. You can mix protein powder into a serving of that to make a sweet pudding style cup that is eddible.

haha, as a student I added my own protein blend to any number of food stuffs....but enough about my summer job in McDonalds.
Thanks for all the replies.
Nuts - I'm not a huge fan of nuts but can eat them. Although, I associate them with high calorie diets.
Protein shakes - I have one with breakfast and one before bed. Ideally I don't want to drink the majority of my intake. The other reason is to keep me full by eating every few hours and keep my metabolism going.
Biltong - I've never been aware of the stuff. I did pick up some beef jerky though:
1 bag = 57g, 161 calories, 22.4g protein, 13.0g carbs and 2.1g fat
and I'm going to try to make my own.
Tuna - pretty much the only fish I don't like. I'm sure I can find other canned fish though.
Protein blancmange - sounds interesting. Something sweet (I have a sweet tooth) and different. I'll look into it.
Cottage cheese - I usually add to my evening protein shake or on jacket potatoes.
I also forgot hard-boiled eggs. I'm going to look into protein-rich bread too, though I'm trying to minimise starchy foods.
I'm still refining my diet to make sure I feel full throughout the day, lose fat and retain the muscle. Plenty of ideas for me to try. Thanks.

if your trying to minimise starchy foods you want to take that jacket potatoe and throw it right outta the window!
