what is it that makes one protein better than another? u always hear that it's about the branch chain amino acids and that whey is better than soy, but I read the labels and it seemed that the amino's were pretty much the same in each.

I use Reflex Instant Whey (www.sports-select.co.uk), absolutely fantastic stuff. The big value sacks are fantastic.
I have heard Biotest supplements to be really talked up by people I have worked out with in the past before, particularly Metabolic Drive powders. A friend of mine gave me 2/3's of a tub of Surge which was really ace for recovery. However, when I went online to pick some up and found it was roughly £40 for like a 2-3lb tub I decided it was too flush for me.

never had a great tasting one, so if someone can recommend one that would help. At the moment i'm using Holland and Barretts' stuff, with a little bit of nesquik thrown in.

its an isolate so it has 90g of protien per 100gs.
where regular whey is about 78-80g per 100g.
per scoop you usually looking at 30g so it will have 27g protien

I was gonna say.. 90g protein would be absurd, unless your Ronnie Coleman.

When in UK i really like myprotien stuff. Their choc orange was the best tasting protien ever even in water. I found their hurricane was great value and immense for recovery.
I use dymatyze elite and it has a great amino profile and is OK taste. But its probably the cheapest out here in australia

Could someone briefly explain how to use protein shakes effectively? ( I know how to drink ta :P )
I'm about to start MMA training and looking to lose a fair bit of weight. With regards to suppliments i'm an absolute beginner so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I'd say that a good multivitamin and multi mineral would be great when you're losing weigt and maybe if you use protein an hour before and right after training you'll be very well catered for. Good quality meat, vegetables and fish also go a long way as proper diet should be more important than suppliments in my personal opinion.
You can also get a blood test to see what exactly your body is lacking in (if anything) and you can base your supplimentation around that successfully.

Cheers for the advice. I'm just a bit confused about what the Protein suppliments will do for me exactly as I primarily want to lose weight, not pack on muscle.
I might go see a nutritionist about my diet, I feel like I need a program to stick to.

I'd just use myprotein... Dan Hardy uses them doesn't he? He's alright...
MT: What nutritional and sports supplements do you use?
DH: I use quite a lot actually. The main one is whey protein and I always add glutamine and leucine to that and creatine once a day too. I take glucosamine sulphate, multi-vitamin, ZMA and fish oil. When I am training hard I add in extra vitamin C, D and a B complex. I use all MP branded products.
MT: You are sponsored by myprotein.co.uk, who fixed this interview for us. Can we ask why you chose to go with these guys as your sponsors?
DH: I like how straight forward their produces are; no nonsense. You need protein? Here is protein. No other secret formulas and marketing jargon. The stuff is basic and good quality and that's the way I like my diet, no added rubbish.

I'm liking the new PhD pharma-blend protein. Just as well, as I'm drinking a lot of it at the moment....

thats the one i go for , i think its chocolate cookie flavour. Iused to use met rx but it makes me feel bloated and loaded with sweetners. Phd looks the best to me. I chuck in a scoop of WMS after I have trained.
A peanut butter flavour powder would be the business:cool:

Ok so I'm about to invest in some Reflex Instant Whey - first time I've used supplements. Should I be drinking protein shakes every day or only on days when I train? I'll be training 3 nights a week to start with.
Cheers.

DEpends on how much protein you are getting in the rest of your diet and how hard you train, in terms of cost benefit 1 shake after training might be give you 50% of your results, where as extra shakes at other times only add another 10% each if you see what Im getting at.
