any numbness / tingling / pins and needles / pain down the legs?

does it also hurt when you arch back and look at the ceiling? (be careful!)

In terms of getting it fixed quickly, If it were me, I'd get to an osteopath. Also, I know you don't like taking pharmaceuticals, but with back pain the painkillers really do help - they allow you to move around more, which stops the back from seizing up and leads to faster recovery time. Good early pain relief has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic back pain and subsequent problems.

Where are you based?

As a general point, front squats are usually better than back squats if you are prone to back problems. (Obviously, you didn't necessarily know that there was a problem until it went wrong).

no numbness or pain in the legs , it hurts most when i try and touch my toes , when i arch back there is pain but its not intense,i may take some paracetemol if i cant sleep , im hoping its a muscle pull rather than anything dise related.

I will try front squats in the future but for now i think i will leave them well alone , I am in cambridge , if it isnt better in a few days my accupuncturist/chinese massage dude will probably be my first point of call.

Thanks for the advice

cool... if you know someone you have had good results from in the past, that's a good place to start.
