Each country will be require to provide 16 fighters each as follows.
2 Featherweight -66kg
4 Lightweight -70kg
4 Welterweight -77kg
2 Middleweight -84kg
2 Light Heavyweight -93kg
2 Heavyweight -120kg

The main Kumite event will be held over three days and will use 8 cages for elimination and one cage for the finals.

It is in each Countries best interest to utilise fighters from other clubs so as to ensure the best representation of the Country as a whole rather that restrict participation to an individual club and thus jeopardize your Countries success.

It is recommended that the affiliate club hold its own elimination events to provide the 16 fighters needed for the Kumite.

At this time we have six of the ten Countries required with two Countries in the pipeline. Full details will be submitted as soon as we have the full 10. Discussions for the venue are now nearly complete and the date will follow confirmation. I know you would all like to know the date but there is a lot at stake with this event.

COUNTRIES ALREADY CONFIRMED ARE:
1/ Matt Follain. Southwest Blackbelt Academy. (United Kingdom.)
2/ Peter Lavery. Kyoujin MMA and Team Ryano/ BJJ Revolution. ( Ireland )
3/ Peter Angerer German Top Team. (Germany)
4/ Sam Stewart Club Kyushinkai. (United Kingdom)
5/ Mathieu Nicourt Free Fight Academy Paris. (France)
6/ Marius Mazulis The Knight of Plunge. (Lithuania)
7/ Rodrigue Masuam Ndangi of Kumitechoc (Republic of Congo)
8/ Jag Paul Plaha of MMA Factory (United Kingdom)

It reminds me of on the karate kid when they got that tourny and there is one giant matt in the middle and 8 smaller matts on the outside where everybody fights in the first rounds and then the big one in the middle for the final! sounds like fun!

Nice one Rich, it was good catching up with you last night:
Sounds like a lot of hard planning and it will be a lot of hard work but fair play, sounds really exciting.
As stated it does sound very ambious however why not, if you can pull it off then it will be amazing.

Do you have any ideas on venues because 8 cages in one place will have to be a very big venue...

Best of luck,

Paul

**editted as didnt realise Simon had PM'd you and you have answered him**

Do you have any ideas on venues because 8 cages in one place will have to be a very big venue... We do most definately have 2 options at our disposal, you cannot start to plan something of this magnitude on the hope you can have a venue, we have 2 HUGE venues to choose from.

Best of luck, Thank You

Paul

Thank you for all the interest I have received already from Team Coaches and Managers from around Europe. I am pleased to say I now have strong interest from Poland and Sweden to join the existing Countries so please keep your enquiries coming and I am sure we can make this a huge success.

are you having the whole tourney over three days back to back? What about injuries and that - is that why you got extra numbers in each weight division?

Yes they will be three days back to back, and as for injuries no as that will fall to default to the last eliminated fighter, as for the extra numbers you will just have to wait and see :)

Good luck with it, but it sounds incredibly ambitious. I have to say I'm not convinced this will work

Pro Kumite was conceived for this very event over a year ago hence the name Kumite. All the workings were sorted out at that time and will be announced as each stage falls into place. We got side tracked with the smaller events due to the recession but are now back on course with the staging of the Kumite.

I'm not shit stirring. I'm just interested. What's the significance of the word kumite? I'd always assumed it was just Japanese for sparring

I was not suggesting you were shit stirring or wishing to do so.. Kumite means to spar or compete. We use as the meaning compete. As others have quite rightly suggested the choice of name came from the Van Damme movies.

Sorry. I didn't mean to imply that was what you were suggesting. I just thought I needed to use a disclaimer because of some of the negative stuff that was said on ths forum about pro kumite right at the beginning.

I think this sounds like a really good idea. You should have each fight ready to go when the last one finishes, like a domino effect. All you have to do to watch the next fight is turn your head a little!! Awesome.

where does this leave the grading system are you gonna do like a fw tournament with a bronze belt one for silver and for gold and do that for all divisions?

mickholdaway
09-04-2009, 07:52 AM
The whole idea of a kumite is for the best to win. For this event the grading system does not apply. Any participant in each section will be expected to fight all that are in the same section subject to the draw at each leg. With regard to the belts, as we make our own belts we will add an insert to our existing tooling to produce a limited edition for the Kumite. These will be gold plated the same as our gold belt range.
