Send Ollie Geddes a PM (stalkachu) and make sure you give him a month and year of the promotion and who gave the promotion.

Not many SBGi guys on there, including me at purple.

Well done on trying to take on such a huge task though.

Does this secret BJJ handshake involve use of the gi?

Don't train gi, never have. Only worn one a few times. One of the last times was just to get my purple. Sucks you can't really get graded nogi many places.

I first got interested in MMA and it was the grappling aspect of it that which really caught my attention so naturally I just trained without the gi. Then Submission Wrestling started to develop and become popular and that became my main interest.

excellent..thats quite an achievement!! Ur interest in mma is very similar to my own..love the grappling aspect of the game..be it standing or on the mat in the form of the ground game..

nogi grading would be something that i'd really be ineterested in..but as you say..little opputunity for it.

I'm sure if Lagartixa (or someone from his school) posts on the EFN thread with the date of the promotion and the Instructor who graded him it will be added

Hi guys

Does anyone know if there is a bjj club anywhere in Leicestershire? Or if not, the nearest to Leicester? I would really like to train in bjj, but I can't find a club near me. I know that there are mma clubs like shootfighters etc but I don't want to do mma -although I have massive respect for those guys who do, I would just like to do full gi bjj at a proper club. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
M

I've obviously been forgotten. I'm not on the list. I think I'll have to come to come back to the UK and prove that I exist. :) Anyone training over Christmas? I fancy a roll, that's a BJJ roll not a ham and cheese roll.

Check my signature for links to the BJJ LABS blog and more importantly the FIGHTING FIT website for directions and timetable. BJJ sessions are lead by BJJ Brown belt Martyn Cahill.

Things have been pretty quiet here regarding my club, Gracie Barra Leeds, but Tom Harris got his brown belt from Victor Estima on the 5th of June, and a few people got promoted at our last seminar on the 18th of April, including Adam Marshall who got his purple belt, and, er me. I got my blue belt after 2 years of training mostly just once a week (but I do other stuff as well) despite having dyspraxia and starting from scratch:

(That's Marcus Houlden, Gracie Barra Leeds and awarded by Victor Estima)

Photos and more on our Facebook group page at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=44476769406

As things stand, Tom Harris is a brown belt, and Richard Couch, Darren Good and Adam Marshall are purple belts. Rick mostly runs the Halifax branch and we've just started a group in Dewsbury as well.

What/who decides who's verified and who's not? Is it case of being registered with the IBJJF or something? I've recently started training with Crazy Monkeys and I didn't see them mentioned once on the list?

Rob T

It's already been said... post on EFN. As long as one of the guys who run the list can verify it they'll add it on. Who are Crazy Monkeys? I've never heard of them before.

so should I run for the hills or? Would any possible promotion (I'm hoping they let me wear a white belt soon) be null and void?

Oh right, I remember... wasn't there some nonsense about "Monkey Jitz" before?? It's BJJ but it's not BJJ?! Something like that iirc. It's just their BJJ association. The website is full of stuff about competition being secondary to self actualisation, or something, but their lineage is legit.

so should I run for the hills or? Would any possible promotion (I'm hoping they let me wear a white belt soon) be null and void? You don't have to earn a white belt in BJJ, everyone's a white belt until someone gives them a blue one. Where's Phil's gym? He's on the Crazy Monkey trainer list but I can't find anything on the internet about him being a BJJ black belt.

Rob T
17-10-2011, 11:41 PM

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Phil Holden probably isn't a BJJ black belt.

excuse my ignorance but what does this actually mean?

nihilist
20-02-2012, 02:07 PM
Nothing, as there's no official database. Unless every BJJ instructor within the UK is aware of the listings on EFN, which obviously isn't going to happen, then it'll never be exhaustive.

Perhaps it's only worth listing brown/black belts anyway as there must be hundreds (or even thousands?) of blue/purple gradings in the UK nowadays.
