Thanks

I've had that before, you'd never guess its a protien shake, just tastes like a milkshake! I get myprotien stuff now tho these days, a bit easier on the wallet!

Hi,

Stay away from any one that tastes sweet...even if low carb/cal (obviously 1g of protein has 4kcals, but you get the idea...)...otherwise you will be helping to set yourself up for fat storage rather than fat loss...

Just a thought...

The Dymatize super sugary taste should tell you something. When tested in an independant UK lab in 2005 it was 63g of protein per 100 despite label claims of 79g. I wonder what filler they used to make up the extra ~20g of weight that would be cheap and sugary.....I wonder....

Choose reflex instant whey. Seen the lab scores, consistently high, higher protein scores than the bulk whey despite including sweetners, flavourings, enzymes, pro biotics etc.

probably dextrose. Holland and Barrett fortress whey is meant to be the same according to the roomers.

Out of interest, do you know of any independant testing on any of the Myprotein protein powders?

Cheers,

"Independant" might be subjective. I got a sample of their "Euro Whey 80" tested in 2006, this was the more expensive Euro whey, they also had a cheaper Euro Whey 75, I assume the 80 was ment to be 80%? Well it scored 73.6g protein per 100, lower than Reflex Instant Whey despite being a plain whey.

Tested by Eurofins UKAS testing lab.

Last time this came up Myprotein threatened to sue me and cage warriors, but backed down when I sent them a scan of the lab report.

Thanks. I've seen the certificates before, but am uncertain about it's independence. I know SS knows a fair bit about independant testing, if I'm right in thinking I think he's sent products away to be tested in the past, so just wondering if he had any inside knowledge.

I've used there products in the past and found they worked perfectly, but there has always been a question mark about the price.

Thanks mate. Lol.

Was the test just for protein? Or did you get any other analysis done? PM me if you don't want to post.

Oh and I here you're mates with Graham, who trains with me at Loughborough.

It was a "crude protein" test based on nitrogen content, so didnt tell you amino acid profiles or anything. (Its been said now and is true to the facts, no need to hide.)

Haha, yeah me and Graham go back, hes a good mate to have..... and that has nothing to with his 19 year old twin sisters.

Putting two and two together, he mentiones a Lewis who is a very handy boxer possibly yourself. Are you guys going to the Body Power Expo, I know Jim Wallhead is.

Hey, sportselect and Lewis - thanks for the info! You guys are tops!

Craig, you can only lose a maximum of 3.5lbs of fat per week under optimum conditions, so I would suggest that at least 1/2 of your weight loss has not been fat, instead being water and soft tissue.

You also won't have lost the weight just by taking protein - its the overall 'package' that will result in weight and fat loss...

OK. The old measure the N content and multiply by 6.25, done a few of them in my time. Thanks for the info.

Yeah that'll be me, although being "handy" at something is all relative to who you do it with... ;)

Might get over there, just with only 6 months left of PhD I'm in the lab most weekends at the moment. Might get over for a bit though.

if you want to cut weight why would you be taking stuff "protein powder" that your body finds very hard to assimilate, if you want to cut weight you should be eating stuff that your body can easily absorb such as yummy stuff like juiced broccoli, green veg etc.

Lots are protein powders are not hard to assimilate at all whey protein isolate, coupled with digestive enzymes make the absorption very easy

I think MyProtein's products are really good. I also like Maximuscle as well, but it is a little more pricey. I think these are the best protein shakes (http://www.wheyproteinshakes.org.uk/best-protein-shake).

...you mean weight to drop dude.

Reflex Micro Whey is superb Whey Isolate, so too is Dymatize Iso (that gave me really bad farts though). For a cheaper but very good option, Vyomax Isolate is excellent too.

According to the best of my knowledge,
whey protein shake mixed with soy protein is better to build muscles.
You would need to take speed-medium digesting shake with it to digest it well.

What would be the best protein shake (http://www.enutriments.com/protein/shakes) if I'm trying to gain/tone muscles? If there really isn't a "best", what would ya'll recommend?
