Hi All,

Since taking MetRX protein shake, my stools and farts have become real smelly, even too much for me to handle - stinks of the protein shake. I also suffer from increased flatulence and shit more times in a day than before. I was wondering, is this to be expected with any protein shake or tis there a particular protein shake that does not bring such side effects?

Help me, PLEASE!

Thanks

In my experience the quantity of the protein consumed can cause this (i.e. too much for you size/needs) as well as the quality of the powder. Are you sure you are not consuming too much protein daily? I have not tried MetrX so cannot comment on that.

I only have one sachet after weights training, which ranges from 2-4 times in a week. Each sachet has 37g of protein; I am 5'6 and weigh around 65kg... Should I be taking a protein shake with a lower protein dose?

I was referring to your overall protein intake daily (i.e. from normal food such as chicken, eggs etc) AS WELL as from powders. Your body can only absorb so much (dependent upon your size/activities) so if you are taking too much overall that can cause nasty smelling farts/IBS type problems.

Given your weight, one sachet does not sound like too much, but without knowing how much protein you have in addition to this, knowing you take one sachet is not much help. Make sense?

It could simply be a crappy powder you are taking, but just trying to show there may be more than one explanation.

Craig.

And I totally appreciate your posts Craig.

I eat chicken and tuna frequently. Tuna is nearly everyday, chicken almost every other dinner. on a daily basis, I probably consume no more than 100g of protein...Perhaps the poweder is not so good for me...

Never used protein suppliments before but if they got these kind of side effects I'm so gonna be there.
Farting on my training partners is one of my greater life pleasures.
Embrace it.

I am far from an expert on here so someone may want to give more exact figures here but the following should be a ROUGH guidelines for protein consumption daily:

Normal adult male: approx .80 gram of protein per kg of bodyweight.

People who engage in athletic activity: approx 1.5 - 2grams per kg of bodyweight depending on the type/extremity of the exercise.

Sounds like you could be getting enough from your diet alone.

Also useful to clear a room if you find yourself waking up next to a lady who does not look as good as she did the night before.......
