He’s actually wrong on the salmonella point. You’re more likely to get salmonella from free range/ organic eggs than from battery farmed eggs in my opinion.

the thought of eating something from an animal that never sees light is a bit odd.

just to clarify, are you saying meat does, or doesn't in fact see light?

What are you basing that on?
Id have assumed that the closer proximity and higher numbers of birds per square metre in intensive rearing opperations would make the spread of bacteria much more likely?

meat does not. I'd be a little worried if the inside of a fillet steak had seen light before it hit the water in my bowl.

I know what you are saying. but the environment is much more controlled in intensive battery farming. you can segregate them an everything.

The enviroment is certainly more controlled, but Ive seen studies quoted in articles which say that the the pressence of Salmonella in eggs from battery hens is x4 times higher then in organic eggs.

i dont give a shit what any studies say , they all have their own agenda, imho organic / free range its just more natural thats it and seems to taste better ( waits for some twat to waffle on endlessly about placebo effects ) , forget all the scientific bollocks people are paid 100s of Gs a year to spout , its all about personal preference / opinion.

Well put detox and I will second that. This also applies to so many other things we see presented as facts i.e. food, crap in the newspapers, politics....aaahhhh

Salmonella species are a feacal bacteria. I.e. the are present in pretty much all faeces (human/ chicken etc etc). In battery farming eggs are laid, they roll down the cage floor and are carried away on a conveyer belt pretty much immediately. With free range hens, the eggs are laid and left sitting in the nest where the bird also shits, meaning there is an increased chance that salmonella species, as well as other faecal bacteria are present on the shell. You crack the shell open, some shell (or bacteria) gets into the egg, you don't cook it at all or enough and you get food poisening.
That said I don't see it as a problem and personally would never buy a battery farmed egg. I just always cook eggs... Scrambled is best.
I also agree with detox, I get a lot of eggs from my boss, who keeps her own chicken, and there is a massive difference in taste and colour between them and even free range supermarket eggs.

I agree with the basic point you're making. Free Range/Organic certainly tastes better then battery imo.
But your the rest of it, as always is utter bullshit.

Salmonella should be killed by the gamma radioactive processes implemented before sale surely? Note the should...
I agree with lewis on the other matters though.
I buy cheap eggs because of the price and the fact that I'm abslutely skint, but definately do like organic better. The yolk in particular tases better to me. I used to get my eggs from the garden as a child and remember switching over to shop eggs and noticing a difference. They seemed to be a brighter yellow but didn't quite have the strong flavour.
